'Special Limited Engagement' = 'On DVD the Next Week'

Looks as tho the are pulling the same scam with "Knucklehead" as they did with John Cena's "Legendary" movie.
They try to make it sound exclusive, with the hint that it will go wide soon thereafter with the phrase "Special Limited Engagement".
What this really means is that they will dupe a few suckers into paying $8-10 to see it in the theater, but then turn around and release it on DVD in a week or two.
Shameless.

Thing is tho, I would rather see Knucklehead than any of Cena's "films".
Big Show has a sense of humor about himself, but Cena, being Vince's Golden Boy just takes himself so seriously.

The only way they can get Wal-Mart to carry the movie is if it has a theatrical release which is the reason for it only having a 2 day showing, same with Cena's movie.

It's not quite coming out "next week", but there will be a mere 18 days between theatrical and home video release.

* October 22, 2010 - limited theatrical release.
* November 9, 2010 - DVD and Blu-ray (all retailers, not exclusive like with Legendary)

Legendary also had an 18 day window, but with that film WWE was at least TRYING to market it as if it will be in theaters for a little while. With Knucklehead, WWE is almost-instantly telling you it will be out on home video soon.

Interestingly, all online retailers are reporting both the DVD and Blu-ray to be Full Screen. I can't imagine any 2010 theatrical movie getting ONLY a full screen release on DVD and especially Blu-ray (which is a widescreen media format). That's just wrong on so many levels :-)

That's gonna piss off a few people that might actually be interested in owning this movie. Not that there will be very many people in that category - I certainly am not - but I'm sure that there are some knuckleheads out there (pun intended).

And for those people that ARE interested in the DVD, Walmart is apparently getting an exclusive 2-pack:

* Knucklehead / WWE Biggest Knucklehead (2-Pack) (Exclusive) (Full Frame)

No other online retailers are reporting exclusives.

'Special Limited Engagement'
I laughed when I heard Michael Cole say that on TV. As it reminds me of the movie I worked on.

The reason its limited is because they have a budget, but someone thought it was better to spread that between two movies (Knucklehead, Legendary) but blew the budget on the films and have nothing left over to promote the film or get it into theatres.

Possible Problems

A lot of theatres these days have DVD projectors (Cheaper to distribute) and Film (Expensive to distribute) DVD projection is not used as much, but a lot of the cinema's have not made the change over. So they could only have access to film based projection cinema's.

Another reason could be Vince/Stephanie trying to save money by not sharing profits with the theatre company.
A lot of movies do a 50/50 split or a 60/40 split of the total takings of a movie.

The movie I worked on, at one cinema only took £20.

Or as one of the other posters said it was to get it into Walmart :-)

Personally, the whole way they "hype" their movies is all wrong. They cant rely on Raw and Smackdown as the major advtising avenue.

Although I love WWF/WWE and have done since I was young. I cant help thinking they are getting in over their heads with Movies.

Some of the movies have been really good. I liked The Marine 2 and 12 Rounds(Die Hard with a vengeance). And so far I'm 30mins into Knucklehead and its actually shaping up to be very interesting.
