'A Part of my Soul Died...'

ok, i love a good, serious actor...but when you allow folks to torture you for a few days to get a convincing portrayal from you, i think you've taken it too far. both of the actresses in this movie that appear in the featurette *totally worth watching...disturbing, stomach churning, and captivating* mention that a "part of my soul" died while doing the shoot. that is totally messed up. i haven't seen the film so i don't know the extent of the physical or sexual abuse, but i can only imagine it has to be pretty wild. the actual branding of one of the actresses (i don't think it happens to both, but i could be wrong) is more than enough for me to steer super far away from this flick. i can't imagine some big picture theme that would make the two hour torture all worth it.

Hi there Rodleen, lovely to discover you post here too! I've been a fan of yours since I first heard your wonderful screams on 'Knife Party' way back in the summer of 2000. Major props on the film and indeed your performance; incedentally I'd like to ask if scenes were largely shot in chronological order? The cut clothing and head-shaving scenes seem to suggest so. Looking forward to your next work! Pick it up in your hand, rolling splendor in your ear...

ThankYOU, GUTTERSNiPE. Rad. iLL take those props!

YES. Chronological Order. Entirely. Completely. On Purpose. With iNTENTiON.
We shot the scenes as they came, all improvic, free-style, just how I like it.

Here iS another film I put my soul into: http://vimeo.com/35665963
I play the red head, Saint Catherine of Siena.

Wowzers, that looks stunning! As another poster noted, there's definitely a Buñuelian vibe there, and I'm picking up a little Glauber Rocha too. Very excited!

I think the actress Rodleen Getsic is kaput. Who'd want to hire her after this and willfully undergoing what she did? After filming Bunny, on March 8, 2010 Rodleen endured a traumatic brain injury. She slipped on a floor mat, landing upside-down on her head, at Real Food Daily restaurant in West Hollywood. Her websites are kaput...

@ mypalandy
I think what you wrote there years ago is the most disgusting I've ever read.

what does "starfish soul" mean? would love for you to elaborate.

i am all for actors putting their soul 100% into a project. but to come away from it with less of a soul than when you came into it? yah, not so cool to me.

reply

The soul is infinite, like Everything else. Energy is never lost. Only ex changed. This is art. Living breathing art. I dontcare what you think. It's better not to think. Clear your mind.

it is very apparent you don't care what i think from all of the hub bub on this posting. i'm sure you'll have a long, amazing career.

Hi Rodleen, I'm watching Bunny right now and I'm only about 20 mins into it, but so far I'm blown away. I had to pause it and read what some people had to say, because so far I love this film. I'm completely drawn in by the realistic, and tense atmosphere. You're an amazing talent and I'm going to pursue more of your work. Thank you so much for putting in the work to make art that will be around a long long time. You're something special, thanks again.

I'm pretty sure the featurette is all acting in order to make the actual film feel more real and disturbing.

Considering real abuse of actors though, well Tobe Hooper in his early days did it, as did Stanley Kubrick (not to mention italian bad boy Ruggero Deodato). So it's not totally uncommon in order to really get the actors in character.

The Bunny Game is nowhere near as disturbing and "real" though as the makers would want you to believe. It is a pretty decent film though!

reply

Hey rodleen, that movie looks like it could be cool, is it supposed to be like a Jodorowski or luis bunuel type of film?

reply

...how do you know what real is for another person?

You dont. You just know your own perspective. And everyone can have their own point of view.... From my POV - the film is definitely a real piece of art. And it is real. I have scars to prove it.

The featurette is definitely not acting.

Im glad you thought it was a decent film tho - "decent" is not the right term in this case.

reply

And what would be the "right term"?

I have to admit that I only watched the featurette up until Jeff Renfro showed up for the first time telling us how he wanted to kill the director (beating him up and leaving him for dead, or something like that) just for him making eye contact with him. If that's really the case though, that a grown man wanted to kill another person just for making eye contact with him, then fine, too bad for him.

But the way I see it, it's just acting and a way to make the film seem more interesting and real than it really is. Sure, you got branded, you got your head shaved, but it's still just a movie, and it is acting under controlled circumstances. The featurette is trying to give the impression that things really could have gotten out of hand, that this Jeff Renfro could have taken things too far, because he's the kind of guy who would kill another man for just looking at him. And that's why I call it all acting.

reply

The featurette was pretty cheesy, I did not see any part in the film where anyone could have actually died apart from maybe the plastic bag though thats pretty far fetched. Jeff Renfro was such a badass.

reply

Hey Cyclon....

Well, I was only joking around with the term "decent" because the film is anything but decent, literally and morally, that is.

Regarding the fact that it is a film: yes, it is acting in a performance art play. The scenes were set up, then acted upon in an organic, improvisational manner. So, in this respect, the film is a real life experience. All scenes happened, and we lived it. In real Life, off screen - I personally have never been a prostitute, and I am pretty sure that Jeff Renfro has never tortured and killed women.

Renfro's extreme behavior and the way in which he and Adam Rehmeier first met, it is Real Life. And he was not an actor. He was an actual truck driver. Renfro is an intense guy. Likely the kind you'd rather avoid.

reply

Hey Rodleen....

Oh, I understand then.

Yes and thus it still is acting and I still think that too much emphasis is being put on the fact that "what we see is real". The way I see it it's just plain old method acting though this time with a touch of common BDSM roleplay. And considering I've seen the film and that I liked it I think it's a shame that the whole "it's all real" is being used in a way to market The Bunny Game, because honestly, there's far more interesting things to put focus on.

And my "problem" with the featurette is that I feel it exaggerates what actually takes place in front of the camera.

Also, I am aware that this is Jeff Renfro's first time as an actor. But why on earth would I want to avoid him? Just because he is intense?

Ha ha. I dontknow. It's just art. Unmarketed art.

reply

digusting you saying that actresses let themselves get sexuallly abused during this you sick freak? you make me sick are you some kind of pedo?

reply

wow - dude, you are nuts. like 90% of your postings on here are similar comments. i think the lady doth protest too much. and here i thought these actresses were the crazy ones...

reply

When you have to call for Bunuel, Rocha or Jodorowsky it means you didn't succeed in being just Rehmeier. Leave these guys alone, or better, just leave the movie business.

reply

Hi Rodleen.

I didn't like the movie much but you were amazing. Very brave performance.
