Horse death

Anybody understand what happened to Ezekiel's horse? It just all of a sudden was struggling for no reason with no explanation. Yeah, it had some circular wound on it that looked like skinned flesh, but that's it. That scene was either terribly written or terribly edited. I have no idea what happened.

HORSE TOOK A WALKER BITE IN THE SCUFFLE A FEW MINUTES PRIOR...THAT WAS WERE HE RAN OUT OF STEAM AND COLLAPSED.

Ezekiel blamed himself for getting the horse bitten, then he realized he could get Eugene or Yumiko killed next because he's weak from the thyroid cancer.
