If only there was someone in the group that has been through the infection and can recognize it...

One eye priest guy failing pretty hard here. Would be helpful if he chimed in...

He might have had a different infection. The current one is through the drinking water, I can't remember what caused his.

reply

It was from getting covered in zombie guts at the sanctuary wasn't it?

reply

Can't remember. I thought he had a wound and got an infection from that.

reply

Yes. Gabriel got sick from wearing the zombie guts to escape the trailer he was trapped in with Negan.

which is another plot hole. Our heros have been covered in tons of zombie guts for years and they were fine.

reply

They’ve only done it a couple of times, and always used ponchos/bedsheets to cover themselves up before spreading the guts on themselves. Whereas with Negan and Gabriel they had to apply the guts directly on their clothes. Negan had a thick leather jacket and didn’t get sick, Gabriel only had his normal shirt on and he got sick. Negan even said something along the lines of “We’ll have to risk it and gut up. Didnt any of your people get sick from this before?” Right when they were applying the zombie guts on themselves. So, I wouldn’t call that a plot hole, although maybe they could have showed gutting up as being more of a risk by having someone get mildly sick when having to gut up without using more protective layers in the past.

season3 when we see Michonne in the fight with merle and his men...she diemboles a walker that is leaning over her..she is in a tiny t shirt with multiole wounds and gunshot wounds, 100 pouinds of guts and walker gore pour all over her...shes fine.

And Daryl spread the blood all over his face in the last episode, without even any concern for open areas like eyes, nose and mouth.

Just because something (may) spread or cause illness if you're exposed to it....doesn't mean it will do so 100% of the time, to 100% of the people exposed.

reply

Haha wow I don’t remember that, I stand corrected. Only thing I can think of to explain the apparent discrepancies, besides the writing, would be that it varies if someone gets infected like that depending on their immune system (how strong it is, how it reacts, etc.). But in light of that scene you referenced, it does seem inconsistent when contact with walker guts leads to infection. I’m going to go back and watch that scene again, thanks.

The very first thing I thought of was a water born virus or contamination. Yet we have a medical 'professional' who can do nothing but check pulses and make people comfortable.

Sorry to see the doctor die, but that was some high level ignorance, even for this show. Took him far too long to figure it out.

reply

My favorite part about his death was how long it took him to turn. I'll bet the writers have meetings and have conversions like
"Hey, how long does it take for people to turn after dying again? I've forgotten"
"How ever long you need for the plot"
"Ah yeah. Of course. Thanks"
