I prefer it like this. Have the big episode before the season finale. And then give us a nice little closure rather than leaving us with a huge cliff hanger. Plus, Negan saving Judith and Dog was awesome! Very touching scene.

No, the season 7 finale with the Deus ex Ma Shiva was worse probably.

This one was good it was just too rushed and the cliffhanger was very weak. Should have been a double episode, and it should have been Rick [clearly] on the radio. Huge missed opportunity. It not being Rick weakens not only the finale but the whole season. If it was Rick it would have tied the whole season together more nicely, rather than it feeling like 2 seasons in one.

Why are you assuming Rick will ever be back on the show? As far as I know, Andy Lincoln is out. He will appear in the TWD movie, and that is it.

Who said I'm assuming anything? I'm saying what would have made the episode better.

But why are YOU assuming he won't ever be back anyway, as if it's set in stone? Hopefully they realise it was a huge mistake and correct it. This is Rick's story. I don't care what has been said. He needs to come back or they can never give this show a proper conclusion.

Andy Lincoln is done. He doesn't want to be on the show anymore.

Obviously the executive producers would have kept him on if they could.

This wasn't a "mistake".

It was a massive mistake. One that will forever tarnish the show unless it's rectified (by having him return at some stage, and have his absence and his response to the events that he missed while he was away be a part of his arc)

Whether it was the execs or Andy's decision is irrelevant. A mistake was made. That is blatantly obvious.

All the better-known actors are trying to jump ship - it's been a pattern. That's just how show business works, and at this point TWD isn't the kind of thing anyone would be still proud to have on their resume.

If anything, the worst executive mistake on this show was to let Frank Darabont go, but oh well.

What pattern? Who besides Andrew Lincoln has wanted to leave? The only close ones I can think of are Lauren Cohen, who only left temporarily to do some stupid show and will be back apparently, and the one who plays Michonne who will leave after(or during?) season 10, I guess to pursue a career in Hollywood making generic superhero movies. That's hardly a pattern dude. It's just been Andrew Lincoln.

How is TWD the kind of thing you wouldn't want on your resume, WTF? It's one of the best shows on TV currently and one of the last "Golden Age" shows left still running. Just because it has gone downhill doesn't change that fact. And remember, the main reason it went downhill is due to Andrew Lincoln leaving. The mistakes they made during season 7 and 8 like Carl being killed off were not bad enough to "not want TWD on their resume".

And unless you are him, how can you know for sure he is done and doesn't want to ever return to the show? He's clearly okay with being in these movies. That can easily change to being okay with instead returning for a handful of episodes, half a season, or a full one, etc.

I agree, the whole show is ultimately Rick's story first and foremost. And for it to have a proper conclusion, Rick needs to have SOME kind of return. (And I'd be SHOCKED if all involved didn't find a way to make that happen). Hey, they got Shane back for a cameo. They brought Hershel back, etc...

This show likes to break the rules, and keep you off balance. I'm intrigued about the whole idea of teasing that the radio voice was Rick's. Hadn't thought of that. I'm not sure we're ready, just yet, for hints of Rick. But....yeah, that would have been pretty awesome.

As a whole, I liked the finale. It was beautifully shot. Hauntingly beautiful. And as heavy as the previous episode was, the slightly light and uplifting end (w/ the snowball fight) was a nice touch.

Kudos to Angela Kang....for finally getting winter scenes approved, BTW.
Now, could you just IMAGINE....if animals could be affected? How intense would it be....if we see characters walking down the road, and a pack of feral (infected) dogs came toward them! New layers of danager to deal with.

I'm sure Andrew Lincoln will make it back to the show for an episode or 2. They say he was hanging around the set to greet the whisperer actors after he had already left the show. I think he was there to do something with Norman Reedus' other show.

Norman reedus has said that andrew lincoln said to him he regrets leaving when he did ! So just maybe he might come back again at some point , even after the movie ! you never know ;)

Yeah, I read that, but come on, it was just a conversation between friends. Like a person leaving for another job opportunity in the real world and telling his/her former co-workers, "I miss you, guys!" Some co-workers keep in touch for a while afterward, too.

I set out a special time to make sure to watch it at home this weekend, and it turned out so boring for a Finale. Some Redditors compared it to Tarantino's Hateful Eight with the snow, but at least that snowbound movie more entertaining to watch.

I've also haven't been the biggest fan of this season, despite Angela Kang taking over as showrunner over Gimple. The whole Henry-Lydia thing dragged for me, Henry is always an irritant, and I don't think Ezekiel, Carol and Michonne can carry the show as the new leads. Not that the actors aren't good -- there's just something about the characters that can't replace what Rick had.

And I like Luke's group (the musician professor) and would like to have focused on them more than zzzzzHenryzzzzz. They feel more like real people from diverse backgrounds. Henry feels like a forced, stiff writer's setup for something (leading up to his end last episode).

Henry was an annoying brat going way back, and he never learned a thing. Constantly doing the wrong thing and going against authority ... like every other teen age character ever shown in this show. Carole is smart enough to know Henry is a lost cause, and to feel the same about Henry as her own child seems bad writing. They just cook up stupid stuff and dangle these characters that they know we care about in front of death constantly, and that is the show - totally manipulative.

Exactly! The heads on sticks would have been the perfect way to fade out at the end of a season, as it sets up the new order and challenges.

It really was disappointing, but I'm grateful for the change of scenery. At least they decided to add snow after 9 years of summer. Seemed like the weather was never going to change.

The worst season finale hands down for me is season 6 Negan's introduction, where they leave you not knowing who he killed. The entire episode is all build up to Negan's debut, the episode consists of Morgan looking for Carol, Rick and the others traveling with a sick Maggie, then after an entire season of build up we finally are graced with Negan's presence and he gives a 5 minute speech and kills someone we don't get to see until a year later.

So yeah thats the worst for me just cause it was such bullshit.

As someone else said i do kind of prefer it like this, having the big episode before the season finale and the finale just being the fallout and a closure for the season. Game Of Thrones has always done that, episode 9 is usually the big one and 10 is slower and just the fallout from episode 9.
