Why he died (spoilers within)

I thought it kind of sucked that Jesus should die now..and still do...just when it seemed they might actually do something with his character. There was so much untapped potential there and frankly I would've been more fine with the now current leader of Hilltop (Tara) getting the axe..
She's had much more time to earn her due..
But evidently Tom Payne was frustrated and tired of being put on the back burner and ready to go...

He is a regular, and as far as I know not a big celebrity or even that good of an actor. I was sad to see Jesus die so pointlessly, and now another silly characters we love get captured and put in danger.

What really bothered me though was that before I had a chance to see the show Yahoo spoils it by telling us Jesus died. I hate that crappy website.

It is a shame because it has only been recently that Jesus has even developed some personality. I don't think this is going to be good for his career ... but who knows, maybe he is getting paid minimum wage or something and cannot afford health care. We all think of actors and celebrities as rolling in money, but is it really?

TWD has a tendency to put characters on the back burner until it's time to kill them off ..But with so many main characters gone it would seem they'd want to develop the few of them they have left ..
I have no idea what Tom Payne's contract included. If it had much to do with his number of scenes then he wouldn't be that highly paid.
I'm not too worried about how he'll do. He's still young and good looking and will get work. If you look at so many actors these days you'll see many have connections to the business whether through acquaintance or blood. And others seem to come from well off families..
Maybe just working regular is more important than being a big celebrity anyway.
Tom Payne doesn't seem worried.

I think it is a very bad move. The way to get ahead in Hollywood, or movies, is to hit on a beloved character, or a memorable evil villain, and then get typecast for a while, and then break out. If he quits TWD before he even makes it, I think he's stupid, and probably toast. He is not that good looking, and no one can tell what he looks like anyway with the hair and beard. Anyway, I was sorry to see him get killed off ... bummer.

There's no real formula for success. There's plenty of extremely talented people that never make it "big" while some not so talented sometimes do. Sometimes it's all about being in the right place at the right time..Some, like Bryan Cranston, admit that there's a high level of luck involved...So no one can say..
I'm just disappointed that his character was killed off myself.

I'm against spoilers as much as the next person, but that did happen almost 2000 years ago. Everyone should know that by now.

According to this article he didn't ask to be released but I'm guessing he's not feeling too bad right now:

Yeah, his significant other just dumped him for being unemployed! ;-)

""But evidently Tom Payne was frustrated and tired of being put on the back burner and ready to go..."

I don't know about that. He sounded surprised and disappointed on "Talking Dead". He said that he found out only a week before receiving the script. He also said originally he was wearing a wig for the part and he had finally grown out his hair for the role. If he was paying attention to the comics, then he had to be surprised since Jesus is still alive. It reminds me of how they treated Chandler Riggs when they prematurely killed off his character.

You're right about there being so much potential for his character. They continue to kill off characters that fans actually like and his story line was getting interesting. Do they or don't they want ratings?

This looks like another case of killing off the person who is the most capable of stopping everyone else from doing something stupid. Like staging a false flag against the whisperers in an attempt to unite the communities.

It sucks that he left, especially since he apparently had just become the new leader after Maggie was stupidly written off for some reason. He was one of the more interesting characters, but I can understand why he would want to leave. He was often in the background on a now very aimless show. Season 9 has been an absolute mess, and now with Rick gone the show seems pretty pointless.

I think the one good thing that will come from his death is that we will get more Tara, another character who has been pushed into the background for so long.
