Negan is definitely gonna become a part of the group and take Rick's spot

I can just tell, from the way he broke down crying about his wife with the sad music playing, and from the previews for the next 3 episodes he seems to be buddies with Judith. Really feels like a redemption arc. The Saviors are gone, he has no followers anymore, he's a broken man and these last 7 some years he's been locked up i think has truly reformed him.

Negan in the comics i heard eventually becomes an anti hero of sorts, even helping Rick.

I think with Andrew Lincoln gone they know they gotta fill his void with someone and it can't be anyone but Negan, Jeffrey Dean Morgan just has that it factor about him, he feels like a leader and a star, i can easily see him becoming the star of the show and being the new Rick.

What i think is gonna happen is Negan over time will show he truly cares about Judith and at some point he'll perform some selfless act and save everyone from the Whisperers. He'll step up and prove he's changed and they'll agree to let him out and see how it goes.

If Rick was still around i wouldn't say this but with Andrew Lincoln gone Jeffery Dean Morgan just feels like the right choice to become the lead of the show, he's the one big character they got left that can truly feel like the main lead.

This has been kicked around a lot and it definitely does look like they're heading in that direction.

I know some people will say that Rick has done bad things and everyone else has done bad things and probably the worst (and stupidest) move they ever did was to murder Negan's outpost in cold blood as an offensive maneuver to get rid of what they thought was an army of Negan's.
But nobody enjoyed it and they already knew this was a band of people that regularly killed people for their supplies. What they didn't know was the multitude of them. So it was dumb as much as it was wrong.

Otherwise there's been psychotic behavior and signs of PTSD of many of Ricks crew which seems almost normal considering the circumstances.

But Negan's behavior has been cold and calculated and never out of control. He seemed to enjoy slaughtering people in front of their loved ones or for effect...he has tortured and maimed and terrorized with great relish and has extorted women to be with him for the lives of their husbands.

There's no coming back from that. People don't just recover from being a sociopath.

If they had it in the cards to redeem Negan at some point they shouldn't have made him such a stone cold tyrant that laughs at peoples misery.

I'm a firm believer in redemption but don't paint somebody as beyond that ability and then try to take it back.
There's going to be a lot of people, like myself, that will never accept Negan's redemption and it makes the writers seem limited to think they can make that work.

Negan is cruel and manipulative, but he's not a sociopath. I remember a few times when he said something that upset other characters and he became upset because they were. It happened at least once when he was talking to Carl and another time with Olivia. The excuse could be he used fear to keep people in line.

I think you're right that some people will never accept Negan as a hero.

reply

There's this notion, that I once believed too, that sociopaths have no ability to feel empathy or feelings at all. But that's not the case. They can sometimes feel for certain people...usually people they may have a bond with.
But most of his behavior classifies him as a sociopath to me..He's not quite as extreme as a psychopath and narcissism seems too mild..
Regardless, he has a serious personality disorder that probably existed before the zombie apocalypse. Not because of.
The apocalypse just made it easy for him to be the worst of himself.

reply

Losing his wife is what messed him up. She was dying of cancer in the hospital right before the ZA hit, and he eventually had to watch her turn zombie before he really knew what was happening outside.

reply

It seems your definition of sociopath is just doing bad things you don’t approve of.

If Negan is a socipoath because he used fear and violence to keep society in line when confronted by a very dangerous world, then pretty much every leader before the 19th century would be at least borderline sociopath.

reply

No, it isn't.
Go check out newer specifics of sociopaths. They are able to have feelings toward some close to them although it probably isn't the same way most relate to feelings and empathy.

I've already specified how Negans behavior varied from the behavior of the others.
It's not just about killing and it's not just about intimidation.
It's the way he handles these things and how he applies them.

You are welcome to find him redeemable.
I don't see it.

reply

Indeed.

reply

I disagree about Negan being a sociopath. He most certainly is. He is not a "psychopath" as was the governor, who was driven insane by the events of the ZA. But Negan always has been a disturbed character. Read his origin comics "Here's Negan".

reply

Yeah, the Governor was psychotic..deranged..insane..
Negan has always coldly known exactly and precisely what he was doing and even seemed to enjoy it.

They can make him Mr Rogers...they can do whatever they want.
But they need to know that they went too far with Negan and some people will never accept him as a good guy.
This is nothing against the actor either..just the character.

reply

YES!!!! There is no way I will ever see or accept Negan as a good guy or forgive him for what he has done and they should stop trying to force this down our throats. Kill him off. 3 years is enough now. #teamGlenn #teamAbraham

I don't know why the OP is getting criticism for what will likely happen according to the comics. Judith replaced Carl and there's no Rick so someone will need to be the new leader unless the show runner throws us another curve ball.

reply

The only one criticizing the OP is a troll..
The rest of us are criticizing the writers.

reply

It will be Daryl. Notice he has become more talkative this season.

reply

Rick never completely trusts Negan in the comics. There are a couple situations where Rick or Dwight only lets Negan help because if he didn't, they were all dead anyway. Although he does make a good case that he is truly changed. Basically everything he does after getting captured is ultimately about gaining Rick's trust. And there is a moment where they both thought they were gonna die, Negan breaks down and explains to Rick his reasoning for why he had to be this way, then admits it was wrong. Even after that, Rick does not allow him to live with the group at Alexandria.

If they stick with this on the show, it would be Daryl and maybe Michonne instead of Rick, and give JDM an out after season 10.

reply

That's why I have stopped watching. I always said " when Andy goes, I will go".

reply

So, are you going to watch Andy's movies?

reply

Yes, I will. I love him. I am only watching till the end of this season, then I'm done. I have no desire to see JDM become the new "goodie".

reply

I'm actually kind of excited about the movies. Not sure how everyone else feels.

reply

I'm curious about both.
I sure hope they do right with these films..
and I really hope they don't take too long to get one of them out.
Early 2020 maybe?

reply

Probably so. Make it next year. Air it in 2020.
