The banter between Shane and Rick....(SPOILERS)

While it was awesome to see Shane in that character again, something felt off about the banter. I get that they were just busting balls for part of it. But....for Shane to even suggest (even jokingly) that Judith is his.....would have been extremely hurtful to Rick, in any universe. I guess I should go back and re-watch that scene again and see if I get a better feel for it. But at first blush....it just seemed like a crude comment to make, when really....it should have been an emotional, connecting scene between them....(and for the audience as well). Anyone else not particularly like Shane's comment about Rick's daughter?

Nope, Rick is convinced that Judith is Shane's daughter and since the scene is a pure figment of Rick's imagination, there's nothing strange about it.

Was there an episode where Rick expressed doubt about who was truly Judith's father? (I can't recall).
That jab (by Shane) just seemed....kind of hurtful and out of place, IMO. I could be in the minority on that, though.

Can't remember the episode but I'm pretty sure Rick said he knew Shane was Judith's father (expressed no doubt at all).

Maybe the 16 or whatever miles out episode where he was gonna make Shane leave and they had that confrontation on the road

I just did some quick research and it looks like it's from Season 7, episode 4 "Service"

He was a lot more than just convinced. He had already told Michonne that he knew Judith wasn't his in a previous episode.

I thought that too at first, but you have to realize this was all in Rick's head, it was Rick talking to himself.

Ahhh, yes. That's a very good point. Makes much more sense from that perspective.

Because Shane was such a friendly guy? Their last encounter happened when Shane lured Rick out into the woods with the specific intention to murder him, so he could continue fucking his wife.

I saw it as a way Rick (who thought he was dying) was making peace with people he didn't have the chance to. He saw Herschel because felt guilty that Beth and Glen died, leaving Maggie alone. He saw Shane because even Shane could be an asshole, they were best friends since they had been in school and felt guilty about having killed him even though it was life or death. He felt guilt over Sasha's death because she basically sacrificed herself for Alexandria after she lost her brother Tyrese and her lover Abraham.

So yeh it was in his mind, but he was making peace with people he felt he had some unfinished business with.
