Negan's car crash...TWD too cheap to film it.

If anyone ever wanted to dispute just what a bunch of cheapskates the producers of TWD and probably the skinflints at AMC are, too, this scene is a good case in point.

After the cut to Negan's car on its side, I actually had to rewind my DVR to see if I missed something during the car chase. But no, the actual crash of the car wasn't anywhere to be seen. One minute Rick and Negan are playing Fast and Furious, and after a cut to Dwight and Simon yakking in the truck, the next shot shows the chase is over (Rick bumped Negan's car? Negan took a turn too fast? Lucille got jammed against the accelerator?) and Negan's hanging from his seatbelt.

This is simply incredible. Incredible at how cheap this show is they couldn't even stage this stunt. This is the HIGHEST-RATED DRAMATIC SHOW ON TV and they won't spring for the cost of doing a stunt that isn't really all that expensive in the first place?? No wonder the ratings for this dreck are dropping like flies at a pesticide factory.

It's absolutely ridiculous, that one of the most watched shows on television right now has one of the worst budgets. I've seen CW programmes pull off more with whatever budget they have.

TWD's writing started to decline and that annoyed me, but I kept coming back (I don't know why either lol) but once the directing and action sequences got incredibly lazy and half-assed, I stopped. I wish more people would, because this show doesn't deserve the audience it has.

It's like a bad marriage. We're just waiting on the kids to grow up (series finale) so it can finally be over.

Extending your metaphor, the kids will be grown up once this Negan arc is done with. I'll file the divorce papers for TWD at that point.

It's absolutely ridiculous, that one of the most watched shows on television right now has one of the worst budgets. I've seen CW programmes pull off more with whatever budget they have.

By now, TWD's budget is quite substantial. Even years ago when they were cut for a time, they still had the equivalent budget of a prime-time network drama--a hefty budget for a cable show. The show has always looked so cheap for the same reason the writing has always been so bad: the kind of people making it.

With the exception of LEGENDS OF TOMORROW, which was supposed to be pretty expensive when it began, the DC shows on the CW are probably made for $2.5 million-$3 million/episode. They're loaded with complex visual effects and look way more expensive than TWD, though TWD probably has twice their budget now (or more).

That's a result of the shows quality. It's not entertaining so I get bored. I'd rather be enjoying a show.

That was weird edit. Maybe the crash was filmed but they couldn't use it and didn't have time to reshoot.

I think it was purposely a jump cut but they don't have the skills to pull it off.

I don't think skipping the actual crash was due to cheapness, I think it was by design. And it could be for any number of reasons. But I DON'T think it was simply to "save money". That's an easy criticism, but I don't buy it. Filming and showing the crash would have been very easy. They could shoot a scene like that in their sleep by now. I actually think how they depicted it was more interesting than spoon-feeding us with another run-of-the-mill crash sequence we've seen 1,000 times in 1,000 different shows and movies.

To just jump-cut to the end result....just kinda...worked. I didn't mind it and actually liked it just fine. Again, rather than being spoon-fed, the scene went straight to 5th gear. You see Negan in a bad place, bloodied and hanging upside down. And you see Rick closing in, bearing down on him with a semi-automatic rifle. It was an awesome scene, and it got the heart rate elevated quickly.

And who knows, they may just fill in the gap in that scene NEXT week, and it may help explain where Jadis came from. For example, maybe the "missing link" in that scene involves Jadis....shooting at Negan's car, or taking out a tire, and causing the crash. Or, we may just see (from Jadis's perspective) how the final moments of that car crash played out.

TWD is still great IMO. The people who constantly complain about the writing and production should probably just move on. Problem solved. Or, keep complaining. The show will eventually run its course and be gone. And then you will be happy?

In fact, TWD is notoriously cheap, there's absolutely no denying that. I remember either this season or last season, instead of showing an explosion the screen just cut to black. I guess that was easier than having an actual explosion or spending more money on CGI. I can't believe you are actually defending them for not for not delivering an a simple crash. I've seen soap operas deliver pretty spectacular car wrecks. If you like the show that's fine, but can't you just accept that "Yeah, the production quality has gone down" which it has no reason to, considering it's one of the most watched shows on TV.

As it's currently written and produced? Yes, I'll be happy. This show was never cream-of-the-crop television, but in earlier seasons it at least used to be an above-average thriller as far as TV shows are concerned.

Now, it's lazily-written and cliché-ridden. And considering how huge its ratings are, amazingly cheap.
