Has The Walking Dead jumped the shark? ((SPOILERS))

Do you think TWD has jumped the shark?

Technically, the ratings may not have gone down enough for it to warrant the term "jump the shark," -- but they have fallen to a six-year low with S8's midseason finale.

Ratings aren't the only definer of jumping the shark: Jon Hein (founder of jumptheshark.com) described it as "A defining moment when you know from now on … it's all downhill … it will never be the same." https://web.archive.org/web/20000817233601/http://www.jumptheshark.com/about.htm

If you believe or suspect TWD has jumped the shark, did you have a particular moment or event that caused you to conclude this?

For me, it was when Negan killed Glenn. That moment was so over-the-top, not in a Fonzie-surfboard kind of way, but in its excessive brutality. It showed no respect for Glenn or the fans. I haven't watched another episode since.

TV has gotten so violent, and the murders of Glenn and Abraham really made me sick. I didn't watch the show for a year and resolved not to ever buy any more seasons of the show from Amazon. Then for what ... two seasons they taunt everyone with Negan's never-ending annoying character, and after all that, they let him live. That was just insulting to the audience.

Killing off Carl was a mega boo-boo.

Totally agree. Even though I'm no longer watching, I heard about this.

I don't know (or care) what the comics did with Carl, but for me when I was watching the TV show, I saw Carl as the obvious future of the show. I was looking forward to seeing a young Carl grow into a man and lead the group. He grew up in a world of walkers. His dad has been a great role model.

Killing Carl was the most stupid thing they have done so far on this show.

If it hadn't been for the murder porn (killing Glenn and Abraham), if I were still watching, killing Carl would have been the final nail in the coffin for me.

I won't even "hate watch" TWD because I don't want to reward AMC (fuck them) with ratings.
