Could this show survive with out Rick?

I was thinking earlier. I think he is the ONLY character that the show can't kill off, unless they end it too, of course.
I can't see it working with out him. As much as I love Michone, Daryll, Negan, the show would go on with out them, but I think it would all fall apart with out Rick.

Thoughts?

He is the main character, and the story revolves around him. The strength of Seasons 1-3 was that Rick was in each episode, the problem with Seasons 4-7 is that too many episodes don't have Rick in it.

I agree with that. They are spreading the show too thin, with too many characters. Vikings did that when they were preparing to kill off Ragnar and as much as I like the other characters, the show is diminished without Travis Fimmel. The Walking Dead comic is the story of Rick Grimes. I could see them killing him off and Kirkman trying to say, it wasn't about Rick, but it is about Rick and they need to remember that.

I would be okay with him dying.
he pisses me off more often than I cheer for him.

If he was killed off, how in the world would they continue since none of Rick's plans fall perfectly in place? The show just would not do if it was oh so smooth.

Naw, the show would definitely not survive without Rick. It's having a hard time as is. and NO, I'm not giving up TWD. I'll hang in for however long it lasts.

reply

I cannot EVER see the show without Rick. I won't watch any longer if Andrew Lincoln leaves. He IS TWD.

ANY other character is expendable.

You've pretty much summed up what I mean, you're just much more concise :-)

You said it! I couldn't agree more w/you!

Yes, and sorely in need of him!

To me, honestly, he's the key to everything in this show. Without him, it wouldn't be the same for me. He was the foundation from episode one and I just don't see him as disposable.

reply

I agree wholeheartedly. His death would destroy the link fans have too the show.

I'd have no problem if Rick wasn't on the show if they brought in someone charismatic who could take the series in a new direction. No one currently on that show can fill that void, so for now we are stuck with him but sadly he's turned into a parody of himself, reusing the same tired tortured expressions. We've been with the guy for seven seasons and we still hardly know him other than he has a fierce desire to protect his own and that he likes Michonne. Why doesn't he talk about his feelings about Lori and Shane with Michonne? That would create more of a deep connection with the characters than longing looks and passionate kisses that no one other than a few hardcore shippers really wants to see.

I love the show, but they need to do something quick to fix it by next season.

I would have said no a few years ago. But, another show I watched had its main character leave and there was no problem. "My Vampire Diaries" about a woman in love with two vampire brothers and writes a diary. Nobody missed her. As long as they come up with interesting stories, it could survive without Rick.

Daryl is a different matter. His fans would be so angry that the ratings would drop.

I agree.. I think people would react much more negatively to Daryl dying because his character has developed so much in the course of the show. We have seen that despite him having a tough exterior, he really does have a heart of gold.

On the other hand, Rick started off as quite a gentle character and we've seen him develop into someone who would kill anyone even at the slightest inkling it may be beneficial to his group.

I don't mind Rick but I also wouldn't be heartbroken if they killed off his character. I was more upset about Glen.
