When (if ever) did ''The Walking Dead'' lose its spark for you?

The 'if ever' part being to emphasize this isn't a hate thread . Some might very well think TWD as it is currently is as good or even better than it was at its start.

At the start I was a very eager watcher. I recently dug out my S1 and 2 DVDs after some years and remember why I liked it so much at the start. I continued watching until almost through S6, then I gave up. In all truthfulness though I'd been going through the motions in viewing for quite a while. I even didn't finish S5 fully at the time and caught up much later.

So...I guess for my money I'd probably not go beyond S4. The rinse-repeat cycle of moving to a new location when the last gets overrun or they have to face some cartoonish villain was what really killed it for me though. I think at the start, the walkers themselves being the main threat, there still being some family bonds which made the characters more relatable, before the show's general formula set in and there was still some sense of the unknown and so maybe some hope of some kind of resolution etc. was when the show was best personally. Also, Andrea and Dale both rocked .

The first few seasons were incredible.

It started slowing down once the Governor got involved, but it still had its moments.

When they got to Alexandria, the show was a shell of what it once was imo. So I say Season 6 is the point where the show dropped.

Yeah, I think it started losing it's spark the second half of Season 5, then after a fairly strong start to Season 6 it started going downhill. A lot of TV programs that go past 5 seasons start becoming predictable & formulaic.

I still watch, but I get more disappointed and irritated with every new season. The Whisperers was when I wish I had stopped watching, though the Negan seasons were not that great either. TWD could have been a really good series, at least better than it was, as it deteriorated after a few seasons into something even more unbelievable than the original premise.

When they killed off Carl!!!

I don't remember what episode it was, but it was when Glen helped Rick get out of that tank he was trapped in. After that, I was all like whatevs and ho-hum, same ole same ole. One of these days, I'll just stop watching and they'll be sorry! Probs after season 12, I just won't be able to take it anymore and I'll stop.

That scene with the tank was one of the first episodes of the entire series ...

S01E01 watched it, liked it, left it there. (I already read the comic, where I read until they were camping in the prison. The tv was too much like the comic so I felt not need to keep watching.

I'm not sure....maybe the 3rd or 4th season. The writing just started going down hill, the scenarios they came up with to create danger for the characters just got more ridiculous and lame, the characters started making more and more idiotic decisions, the plots of wandering around encountering group after group of good and bad just started to get tiring, the endless waffling of "are we going to be selfless and noble and help those we encounter" vs. "we have to be ruthless and not lower our guard to anyone" began here to get tiring....they are still just wandering and encountering groups and still trying to figure out if they are going to be badass or welcoming to strangers. The first 2 seasons or so were amazing.

There was a thread on the old imdb board documenting the "versions of Rick" which I found highly entertaining. It's all part of the melodrama model they went to after season 1, where character motivations are completely dependent on the plot at the time.

Second half of season 3. Was very cheesy at that point. The later seasons were so bad it was a disgrace. Season 1 (though short) was gold.

As soon as Negan arrived.

That was too much for me. I hated the guy purely on reputation, but when he was on screen, I couldn't stand him at all. Just one villain after another, when they already have plagues and famine to deal with. The Alexandrians and Rick's family deserved a long rest in a relatively safe life.
