Just watched "Ball and Chain" from the first season.

Found it on Retro TV the other day, so I DVR'd it. Maybe it isn't everyone's favorite episode, but watching it made me realize why I liked Haven so much when it started. Comedy between Vince and Dave, Eleanor the Medical Examiner (they got rid of her too soon), and the many shots of the town and surrounding area, all made this episode one of my favorites. I can't stress that last one enough. In my opinion, the town and the scenery of Nova Scotia was almost a character itself in the first two seasons. In light of all the heavier episodes from seasons four to the finale..it felt innocent and fun.

Yes i felt that way too the scenery nova scotia was a main character those first few seasons. My favorite season is the first season I can watch it over and over. Uou are right the last few seasons got so dark and heavy and the first season was light and fun.

I completely agree about the characters that left too early. Initially, I couldn't stand the second season because of Reverend Driscoll. Then I realized that the actor who played the role, Stephen McHattie, was just so good that you almost wanted to dislike him. I miss him and Julia Carr. I think the writers missed the boat with her. Just when she got interesting we never saw her again.

I felt the same thing about Julia. I wish they would have kept her because she had the disappearing tattoo, but didn't seem to know she had it. Her grandfather had it, so he could have had the same type or maybe Vince slept with Eleanor and he didn't know Julia was his kid. It would have been interesting to see it play out and if Jennifer hadn't come along, they could have done something with her & Duke and the Troubles

Oh yes the Rev!! i was shocked they got rid of him so soon. always thought he was important in haven character wise and played the part perfect. the actor was great and so was the character. Another character i cant believe left so soon is garland the chief. Seriously would have loved to seen him stick around another season at least. Too too soon.
