Better than a 4.3

While this certainly was not Oscar/BAFTA winner - it was certainly better than a 4.3...I agree with most of the issues the others have mentioned on here - but that didn't take away everything from this cute rom-com...it's live streaming on Netflix in the US - so you might want to give this a shot...

Completely unoriginal rubbish.

Which wouldn't be so bad, except it was not even executed well. The acting was wooden and flat, the bit where his wife died made me laugh for a good 10 mins while the movie was ongoing and I had to gather myself, and the fact that the Gordon Ramsey throw-in looked so forced (as opposed to just being forced, which I guess was the best we could have hoped for) made this movie dismal.

I think when I watched it with my cousin again he was able to guess the entire plot of the movie from start to finish and describe pretty much most of what was going to happen after the geezer's wife pegged it. And I mean pretty much on the nose. He hadn't seen the trailers and I really only made him watch it coz I felt like torturing him with a crap movie as a prank.

I would give it a lower score than 4.3 but I don't want to look harsh. But if I'm going to be completely honest it would be lower than that given by IMdb users - I think they were being generous.

I guess the only argument against the above would be that there ARE worse films out there, which is fair enough. It is NOT the worst ever movie made or anything. But it's not good at all either.

Especially given how much history this type of movie has in terms of being made you would think they could do at least a little better.

Not to mention I just found the plot ludicrous (buying up a small-town pub and turning it into a fancy restaurant and then having that oh-so-fake "food critic" happen to be there for him to fall in-love with). Bah. Just bad writing. And bad acting. Uninspired directing.

No, no, no, no, no, no. All wrong.

Maybe I'm being a tad harsh, but that's the gist of it.

Yes, you're definitely being too harsh. My family totally disagrees with you. We just watched the movie yesterday. I'd never heard of it, but I usually like romantic comedies. I also knew who Claire Forlani was, so I thought we'd give it a try. My teenage daughters and I really enjoyed it. We didn't have any problems with the acting, directing or anything else. As far as we're concerned, it is just as good as most romantic comedies are. Maybe it is unoriginal and unrealistic, but get real, most movies nowadays aren't original or realistic either. Besides, a movie doesn't have to be original or realistic to be enjoyable..... And what a horrible person you must be to think that someone dying in a car accident is funny. How it was presented in the movie makes no difference. Shame on you.
