Thought Johnny Weir skated beautifully and deserved better scores

with all the focus on Evan being able to skate an artistic and quad-less performance and still get a gold, I think Weir's free skate was excellent and he should have finished at 3rd in the free skate portion. Who cares what or how much crap he talks off the ice? His skating performance ON THE ICE was beautiful to watch.

I do think he's a unique person but that didn't give the judges the right to give him crap scores. I think that really what happened. I honestly thought he should've been the bronze medalist.

reply

I agree. The Japanese skater fell and that's not a medal winning move at all. Johnny was smooth and greatly entertaining as usual.

Why ain't you at the garden party you heathen?

reply

I thought he deserved better scores, but not good enough for bronze. The Russian guy fell as well and he got silver. I thought the Japanese skater deserved the bronze.

why...why?

reply

JW was great and I certainly feel he should have at least got bronze.
And I thought it was very nice of him to calm the crowd around him with hand gestures when they thought so as well.

Johnny left a lot of points on the table when he messed up his spins. He also had relatively easier elements. That is something he does regularly; it's nothing new. Takahashi had more points because he earned them with what he did well.

messed up on the spins? did u see everyone else? people who fell got better scores than he did. he deserved a bronze imo. it was cool he calmed the crowd caue id be booing too.

Base levels, honey, base levels. That is why Dube & Davisson were higher than the other Canadian pair in the short program. PLEASE do your homework!

I wasn't saying he had the worst spins of the final group, just saying that that was why he lost points. Sadly, the worst spins would PROBABLY (note, PROBABLY) go to Lambiel, which is an absolute SHOCK. Still, I hope he doesn't let this get him down. He got silver at the European Championships, that should motivate him to continue... at least I hope so, because I missed his skating.

honey? i aint no honey. and all im saying is that Johnny should have scored better. goe and all that crap.

And I was explaining why he didn't. As for the "honey," it was never meant as an insult.

It was probably Johnny's finest performance and he should've received a score in the low to mid-160s, at least. I love his gregarious personality (Evan is like tofu in comparison) amd his beautiful face.

However, I sensed no love from NBC for Johnny. He was conspicuously absent in the early promos for the men's figure skating. So much so, I initally wondered if he was in the Olympics! Did PETA put pressure on NBS to ignore Johnny?

I wish Johnny great success in his desire to do fashion deisgn. But honestly, I'd rather see him try his hand at acting.

reply

I think it has something to do with the lack of success Johnny has achieved over the past few years. Also, really, he did not have a flawless skate and his elements were easier anyway; hence, they were worth less. That's just the way it works.

Not to say I didn't love it! I've been a loyal Johnny fan for 9 years!

The commentators agreed with you, and they haven't made a habit of second-guessing the judges that much. Weir pays a price for being himself, but he's one of the ones viewers will remember the longest.

His scores in both the short and long program were a lot smaller than they should have been.... but figure skating is a joke at the olympics and always will be.... regardless of how they change the rules they have preset favorites and if as long as you don't fall you're going to win. Look at how close Plushenko was to the Gold and his performance was just aweful...he was shaky and left and right. Look at that charity Bronze they gave to Rochette....

The only competition that got it right was the dancing which im happy the CAnadians skated as well as they did, because with the crowd on their side they probably could have fallen down and still won......

Had you been talking about 2008 Nationals between Weir and Lysacek I would agree entirely.

I wish he would too but he won't unless he steps up his game and does some elements worth level 3 at least and more difficult choreography. I'm really surprised that Zmievskaya isn't being more strict with him about that.

Johnny got bronze in 2007 or 2008... I can never remember!

Lysacek already said he won't do Worlds because of the stress fracture. Plushenko, though injured as well, does intend to go. I'm hoping we'll see Lambiel too and better showings from Oda and Kozuka. I also want to see Takahashi do well. I'm PRAYING Verner will be there. Can't stand Chan though. I'm hoping Plushenko will win.

Honestly I think Wilson's choreography is overrated. I did like the Phillip Glass program he did for Buttle in 04-05 though.
