4D? What does that mean?!

So I saw the trailer for this before Kung Fu Panda 2 and at the end, it said the movie's going to be in 4D. Robert Rodriguez said there will be a surprise in the movie. I guess the 4D is the surprise. Although the trailer looked bad, I'm intrigued nonetheless. Remember, Spy Kids 3D kinda started the whole 3D craze back in 2003.

I think 4D is like the smell of it. For example, there's a scene where there in a restaurant and you smell it.

I was surprised too. So Spy Kids 4 will have 4D?

reply

I don't understand how theyre gonna do it.
If you've ever been to a 4D movie, you know it would be expensive.

They have special seats with hydraulics, wind machines, smell machines,
water mist, and a bunch of other cool stuff.

How are they gonna do 4D in a regular theater with out spending a bunch of cash to set it up?

When I saw that in the trailer, I instantly thought of William Castle lol. Maybe they will use part of their budget to install little devices in the theater for a 4D expierence, or they will use scratch and sniff cards.

Either that or it was just a joke...

They have 4D stuff at themeparks, you watch a short, if there's snow, fake snow comes out from the ceiling, and stuff like that. I wonder if during puke scene here, they will have fake puke splatter the audiences, I doubt it, but that would've been kinda cool.

reply

they usually use water for the 'puke' scenes

4D is where in addition to the 3D images, more stuff will happen. Ex. Hydrolic seats, water and air spraying out at the audience, etc.

And FURTHERMORE, this is my signature! SERIOUSLY! Did you think I was still talking about my point?

reply

Honestly, when I heard it was 4D I thought it was just a pun since it is the 4th movie in the spy kids seris

If you love Jesus Christ and are 100% proud of it copy this and make your signature

I know this is an old thread, but to answer the original question, as someone
who took their kids to see this in the theatre:

the 4D included SMELL. It was called AROMASCOPE. When you bought your movie
ticket everyone was given a scratch card, as well. There were numbered-areas all
over the card, 1, 2, 3 etc.

At certain points in the movie they would flash a number on the screen, like
"2!" and you were supposed to scratch the number 2 on your card and sniff it.

My (at the time) 5 and 2.5 year old really enjoyed the experience. It kept
them involved in the movie.

It's a pun... the fourth dimension is TIME and this movie is about stopping TIME.
