Was this movie supposed to be a hit?

Because it just seemed sort of an indie type movie. I mean isn't Open Road an independent distributor?

Even I'm surprised I'm not gay.

I don't think that any Movie Maker, Big Studio or Independent, makes their movie with the idea in mind that it's going to flop.

While not all movies are made to make the big bucks, they are made to at least recover their production and marketing cost, and have an acceptable profit margin.

There can be that rare film, made just because someone wanted to make it, but the costs then have to be carried by the makers at a "loss" (they might make a 'blockbuster' to then finance the 'artsy' one).

The Host was started as a project with a franchise in mind (2 more books and probably 3 more movies, if all had gone well with the first). With that purpose in mind, it failed.

But, in my personal opinion, it is a movie that's good for watching on a rainy evening when one has nothing better to do.

This was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Incredibly uncreative. I was an innocent bystander forced to watch and I had no bias or preconceptions.

The internal dialog was probably the worst idea and laziest way to convey what was going on. It just felt so cheap and devoid of soul.

The concept of the movie wasn't bad at all despite the fact that its been done before but the execution was just poor.

I think I'm trying to be nice in saying I "quickly" tired of it. It was like the same tired old joke, being repeated over and over. The concept kind of worked in Look Who's Talking, but this movie was trying to be serious ... I think.🐭

that bit reminded me of "Me, Myself & Irene"

Indie? This movie cost $40 million. They probably thought it would be successful after all the film to movie adaptions.

Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by rulers as useful.

Well, yes, for two reasons:

1) Well known Hollywood actors.
2) The fact it's written by the same woman who came up with the Twilight saga.
