If this was remade in the U.S....

...it would be a couple having an affair with the same WOMAN because, you know, only women can be bisexual.

I'm from the US and I would absolutely agree with you!

reply

I agree that goodness this is NOT an American movie. I like that the movie explores bisexuality from a male perspective.

if it wuz remade in usa, it wud be more entertainin and better lookin gurl

I live, I love, I slay, and I'm content

Yes, we all know that Americans can't cope with watching movies about normal looking people who come closer to their own average or extremely fat self. ^_^

reply

Poor German people, they can't be sexy.

Oh, but bisexual women are attention-seekers and whores, and they're only *acting* bi to titillate potential male partners and so aren't really bi at all! While the men are either 100% gay or 100% straight, because anything else is beyond US comprehension apparently. I hate living in America...

EDIT: come to think of it, the American movie Vicky Christina Barcelona also featured a tertiary couple, and yes, predictably, two out of three were hot, cis, femme women.

^This is so true. I can't really speak for other cultures but in America it's obvious that a lot of people have a very simplistic view of sexuality. "Wait, it's more complex than that? No way, man!"

I also noticed how Hollywood is addicted to penis. How many movies feature a supposedly lesbian woman who ends up sleeping with or falling in love with a man? Because no woman can resists a penis. Yet if a man is gay he is gay and can never be seduced by a woman.

It's like a gay man can't be turned straight but a gay woman can. The only movie where I've seen it happen is Opposite of Sex, otherwise once a dude in a movie is gay he stays gay, period.

That sounds related to the idea of phallocentrism in how people talk about bisexuality--everyone goes for the man with the penis (which is why bi and oftentimes lesbian women are really straight, and bi men are really gay).
The Irish movie "Goldfish Memory" does a nice job of portraying diverse relationships without falling into these tropes.

This is rare in Hollywood. Most of the times they find their happiness with the woman.

I was talking specifically about commercial films and the main characters. If it's a supporting lesbian character then they might stay lesbian, but the main female character that's supposed to be lesbian either really isn't (ie she sleeps with a man at some point during the story) or is converted.

The only one I can think of is kissing Jessica Stein, and I am not really sure what was going on in that film.

reply

In KJS one woman does go back to men while one woman continues to be with women, but KJS was not a commercial film it was an Indie that was picked up and distributed by Fox Searchlight.

Actually, one woman was indicated of at least giving a guy a chance whom she really knew cared for her I thought that was the real reason for the breakup, But just as the film said she was going back to being the same as she was [straight]she gets hit on by another lesbian. It was odd because the one thing indicated in this film was she was not into lesbian sex. I think the film said at the end that men and women wee attracted to her as she is.

The other gal I could not understand how she went to actually liking sex with men to totally giving up on it with them. Made no sense since, she was getting off and enjoying both. I suspect her gal will some day walk in on her with a guy...She may say this is just for old time sakes. LOL

I thought the exact same thing as I watched the movie. Americans are terrified of male on male intimacy.

I'm actually currently writing a film with a similar storyline but it's a comedy. Takes place during Thanksgiving. My couple discovers they share the same man just as her parents arrive for the holiday a day early. Mine's about their dinner and the way they work out their issues while keeping it a secret from the in-laws. In mine, the wife also gets pregnant but the husband comes out to everyone. I came up with this before watching this film. I was just doing some research on threesome movies and came across it. I want to make an international type of film that appeals to everyone regardless of nationality. And make a smart satire about relationships.

reply

A number of years ago I saw a documentary about a community of people, sort of an artistic crowd, who lived in the group sex environment on a permanent basis.

When making a movie, make sure the separation of a "smart satire" and "incoming trend" is visible. After all, who says that a family must be limited to two people?

reply

Indeed. In the short film version, I'm gonna leave it kind of open at the end what they're going to do. But the feature will be more clear.
