This cast listing is good, but my only complaint would be the casting of Paul W.S. Anderson as the director of the Kampfer film adaptation. I never really liked his movies (maybe except for Event Horizon, which was decent). If it were my decision, I would have made Barry Sonnenfeld as the director of the movie

In regards to Mr. Anderson, my personal favorites are Mortal Kombat and Death Race.

Death Race was a cool movie, it's very entertaining. For me, that would be second to Event Horizon. Mortal Kombat, on the other hand, was kinda....cheesy. But I guess it's because of the time the film was made & released: in the 90's when there was an abundance of cheesy flicks

Speaking of Mortal Kombat, the Nostalgia Critic once did a negative review and took a lot of heat from fans (and yes, there were quite a few) for the effort. The Critic also trashed its sequel, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation (which wasn't directed by Mr. Anderson), in which he responded to the criticism about his earlier review. You see, in my opinion, the first MK is so bad it's good. Its sequel, on the other hand... (Don't get me wrong, it's a guilty pleasure. I just think the first MK was superior to the sequel.)

>:(
"Are you trying to say "capisce"? Because it hurts my ears the way you say it."

reply

Yeah the first MK has a cult following now despite negative reviews, because (as you said) it's so bad that it's good. It's pretty funny to watch, but I have to be in the mood to watch a bad movie if I wanted to see it again

But I wish the sequel was better because it could have somehow continued the story more properly, if the filmmakers took the movie franchise seriously!

Enough about Mortal Kombat.

Here's what I think can be done to the movie to make it exceed the already good anime.

First, the characters. The main Blue and Red Kampfers need a long-term goal from since before they became Kampfers. I was thinking...
*Natsuru should aspire to become a figure skater. This will be highlighted when, in the opening scene, Natsuru receives his Entrails Animal from Kaede as he exits the skating rink, as well as when Kampfer Natsuru reluctantly agrees to go on a date with Kaede (in a key scene that takes place before the White Kampfers show up) on the condition that (s)he chooses where they go. Naturally, (s)he chooses to go to the skating rink, where (s)he plans to surprise her with a routine (s)he had prepared herself. Before the routine begins, Kampfer Natsuru will change out of her uniform (but keep the grade A zettai ryouiki) and into a pink thin-strapped skirtall (kinda like a leotard, but with a skirt as short as that on her school uniform attached to it) that (s)he saw at the shop at the rink (but decidedly clashes with her black thigh-highs) as well as let down her hair.
*Akane should aspire to make movies. This will be highlighted when in one scene she tells Natsuru that she sometimes films herself doing ordinary activities.
*Shizuku should aspire to be a stage actress. This will be highlighted when during the scene where she's dressed as Zero from Code Geass, she says it was her costume from a stage production of Code Geass from last year and that she was asked by the drama club to make a special appearence as the lead character.
*Mikoto will still aspire to be an archaeologist, but she'll be more serious about it. This will be highlighted when she tells Natsuru she had returned because her latest expedition had finished in a scene from the director's cut (I'll tell you about it later in the post).

Also, we should see Natsuru (like I described earlier) and Shizuku receiving Entrails Animals from Kaede in the first scenes. Before the title zooms in at the start, Natsuru will give a brief opening monologue against a black screen after the company credits appear. When Natsuru returns home to turn in for the night, he'll put his skates beside the door, put his Entrails Animal on a nearby desk, and jump onto his bed. As he's lying there with his eyes closed, the camera zooms in on him. When only his eyes are in focus, they open. The next shot shows him in Kampfer form getting up from his bed. (S)he reaches behind her head and touches a ponytail that wasn't there. Her first words upon realizing this? "Did my hair grow this long in a short ti... *gasp* That wasn't my voice... *grabs her breasts, gasp* They're real! So... *lifts up skirt and sees blue and white striped panties* I knew it..." That's where at least the translated manga on MangaFox is supposed to begin. (Even in Japan, the manga is still ongoing according to Wikipedia.) The ending will also be changed, to be set before school starts the day after Natsuru finds out Kaede is behind the appearence of the White Kampfers. Kampfer Natsuru encounters the Zauber-type White Kampfer and tells her, "Take me to your leader." After Kaede tells Kampfer Natsuru of her plan to add her to her lesbian harem when he reaches the roof, Kampfer Natsuru asks, "Kill my friends? Are you crazy, Kaede? Are you seriously going to start adding me to your harem now? When are you planning to do it?" Kaede replies by saying, "Do it, Natsuru? I'm not a comic book villain. I did it 35 minutes ago." Then she snaps her fingers, and then the White Kampfers show up escorting Akane, Shizuku, and Mikoto, all of whose hands are tied behind their backs with rope. Kaede hypnotizes Kampfer Natsuru and tells her to finish her plan by killing the trio. (S)he hesitates for a moment, seeing the gift Shizuku had given her, and approaches, taking Mikoto's katana. At first, the trio thinks Kampfer Natsuru is about to kill them, but (s)he suddenly grabs Mikoto's hands and saws the rope off. Then (s)he does the same to Shizuku and then Akane. Kaede is shocked that Kampfer Natsuru had broken free from her hypnotism but tries convincing her to dump the trio for her. Kampfer Natsuru hesitates, knowing that Akane and Shizuku had already confessed their love to her while (s)he was in Kampfer form, but then Mikoto, amazed at how even Kampfer Natsuru can be merciful, says, "It's okay, Natsuru. Man or woman, I'll always love you no matter what." Kampfer Natsuru then tells her decision to Kaede without becoming a boy again like he did in the anime:

KAEDE
Well? Have you chosen who you want? Either me... or them.

NATSURU (F)
Them.

KAEDE
What?

NATSURU (F)
T-H-E-M. Them.

That's when the White Kampfers start fighting their counterparts. Akane fights the Gewehr-type White Kampfer, while Shizuku and Mikoto fight the Schwert-type White Kampfers. As Akane aims at the Gewehr-type White Kampfer, she lets out a sinister laugh (uncharacteristic of even her) and says, "Sayonara, bitch." Then she fires and hits the Gewehr-type White Kampfer's shoulder. Amazed that she finally scored a hit, she says, "Wow... I can't believe I actually shot someone. Now piss off bee-fow I use my newly found accuracy to empty dis Colt on you." The Gewehr-type White Kampfer flees. Shizuku manages to use her chained daggers to send her Schwert-type opponent tumbling down the stairs nearby. Mikoto uses her katana to slash her opponent's sailor uniform, and she promptly flees before Mikoto can cause her any more clothing damage. The trio, reveling in their victory, go down the stairs to continue the fight. Kampfer Natsuru, meanwhile, immolates his Zauber-type opponent, who runs down the stairs and presumably into the school pool to douse the flames. Kaede sees the scene from the side opposite Kampfer Natsuru. Then she turns to Kampfer Natsuru and, taking her sword and gun out of Hammerspace with one hand each, declares her intention to recover.

NATSURU (F)
Kaede!

KAEDE
You think it's over?

NATSURU (F)
Uh... I can explain...

KAEDE
All your little stunt did was buy them time! *aims her gun at Kampfer Natsuru*

NATSURU (F)
No, please...

KAEDE
I'll get more White Kampfers and be back next time... *coldly* but you won't.

Kaede then fires all six of her bullets at Kampfer Natsuru, who dodges each one. She then throws her sword at her. (S)he dodges it too. Finally, in desparation, Kaede charges at Kampfer Natsuru, who avoids her. Before she can stop herself, she winds up going over the edge of the roof.

NATSURU (F)
Oh, now I have guilt! *dives over the edge and grabs Kaede's hand, with her own feet supporting her as (s)he dangles over the edge* I'm going to save you... but I don't have to love you.

KAEDE
*smiles* You're merciful...

NATSURU (F)
Thank you.

Just then, Kampfer Natsuru loses her feet's grip on the roof, and both (s)he and Kaede plummet to their deaths (with Kaede's death being from her POV as the camera zooms toward the ground below before the lens hits the ground for an efficient transition to black). Afterwards, the camera zooms out from the collar of Kampfer Natsuru's uniform to reveal their dead bodies. The trio runs over to the scene, and Kampfer Akane's normally cold heart is softened as she has a good cry for her fallen comrade. Shortly afterwards, Kampfer Natsuru regains her consciousness, much to Akane's relief. Akane then picks up Kaede's hand, which hangs limp. We then get these last lines.

NATSURU (F)
Is Kaede...

AKANE
*quietly, as she sadly shakes her head* No...

SHIZUKU
I see...

MIKOTO
But, Natsuru... what about our futures?

NATSURU (F)
It's been left to us. It's all been left to us now.

The last shot is a pan away from the scene as Kampfer Natsuru, Akane, Shizuku, and Mikoto stand over Kaede's dead body and the credits start rolling.

Then there's the matter of different versions of the film itself. I think there should be a 210-mintue PG-13-rated theatrical cut and a 278-minute R-rated ("for pervasive language, teen smoking and an image of blood") director's cut.
*The theatrical cut will retain most of its swearing, but the only F-word will be dropped by Kampfer Akane when she and Kampfer Natsuru are fighting Rika Ueda for the first time: right before unloading her ammo on Ueda in yet another example of what TV Tropes calls "A-Team firing", Kampfer Akane will coldly sneer in her direction, "Eat lead, mother****er." Also, Kampfer Akane will retain her trait of chewing on a stick-like thingy.
*The director's cut will feature scenes that come from the light novels and the manga. Also, besides the swearing in those scenes, F words will be inserted throughout even where it wasn't present in the theatrical cut (via alternate takes), and Kampfer Akane will not chew on that stick-like thingy, instead all-out smoking a cigarette (also via alternate takes). Also, in the final scene I mentioned, a pool of blood will be digitally added around Kaede after she dies.

Howzat sound?

The way the story goes from your description is a good idea, because it branches well with the anime but with some fair changes. I like the changes

Kampfer Natsuru then tells her decision to Kaede without becoming a boy again like he did in the anime:

So this part of the movie is somewhat like the ending of Pretty Face, where the main character of that manga stays as a girl. That could be a sort of reference to Pretty Face.

I think there should be a 210-mintue PG-13-rated theatrical cut and a 278-minute R-rated ("for pervasive language, teen smoking and an image of blood") director's cut.

I like the idea of the theatrical cut being PG-13 and the director's cut being R-rated in this case, because it would be too drastic to directly put forward the R-rated version in theaters since teens are most likely going to see this film adaptation.

If Watchmen was made as a PG-13 movie in theaters (rather than rated R) and its R-rated content put as a director's cut on DVD & BluRay, I think it would have done far better in the box office. I feel that the movie could have been made with PG-13 content for theaters but still feel like an R-rated flick, just like how 'The Dark Knight' felt like it was R-rated but was given a PG-13 rating.

And one thing about the director's cut of Kampfer: is it really necessary to mention "an image of blood" for the R-rating? Or is it just a sort of way to let the curious buyers of the director's cut find out which scene has blood in it?

Part of me tells me that bloodshed from when a teenager takes a nasty fall merits an R rating, but part of me also tells me that director's cut buyers may be curious as to which scene has blood in it.

Here's my picks for the soundtrack (once you put yours down, we can combine our choices by picking the best of our selections and mixing them into the soundtrack).

1. "Desolation Row" cover by My Chemical Romance
2. "Aggressive Perfector (Reign in Blood recording)" by Slayer
3. "Master of Puppets" by Metallica
4. "Disposable Heroes" by Metallica
5. "Hallelujah" cover by Allison Crowe (this might be very good music for Kampfer Natsuru's figure skating routine; all we need is a remix to make it sound like a pop song)
6. "Hallowed Point" by Slayer
7. "Expendable Youth" by Slayer
8. "Mandatory Suicide" by Slayer
9. "Know Your Enemy" by Green Day
10. "Hand of Doom" cover by Danzig

Cool! Now let's condense our two soundtracks into our own version of the soundtrack. I think the six songs I'd call "must-haves" in what we'll call "the definitive Kampfer soundtrack" are "Desolation Row" cover by My Chemical Romance, "Know Your Enemy" by Green Day, "Coming Undone" by KoRn, "Hallelujah" cover by Allison Crowe (pop remix), "Ratfinks, Suicide Tanks and Cannibal Girls" by White Zombie, and "21 Guns" cover by Emma Watson. What do you think should be included in the combination?

5. "Ratfinks, Suicide Tanks and Cannibal Girls" by White Zombie

I was thinking, maybe "Hallelujah" cover by Allison Crowe (pop remix) should be earlier if it's to play during Kampfer Natsuru's figure skating routine (in the original scene I mentioned in an earlier post here). Also, when suggesting the spot for "Desolation Row" cover by My Chemical Romance, I was assuming that the film would use opening credits (and not just company credits and a title). Speaking of which, I was thinking the opening credits should be done like a clip show featuring clips from the film (that don't spoil anything) arranged as if it were a trailer but clearly part of the opening credits (and as the hard rock sound of the song kicks in, the title itself should zoom in against a black screen, right before the aforementioned clip show). Howzat sound?

>:(
"Are you trying to say "capisce"? Because it hurts my ears the way you say it."

reply

What you said makes sense, actually. I wasn't thinking very clearly about the placement of "Hallelujah" cover by Allison Crowe (pop remix). Also, since you mentioned that "Desolation Row" cover by My Chemical Romance should

So this should be the reworked listing of the Kenpufa film soundtrack:

1. "Desolation Row" cover by My Chemical Romance
2. "Raw Power" cover by Guns N Roses
3. "Coming Undone" by KoRn
4. "The Game" by Drowning Pool
5. "Hallowed Point" by Slayer
6. "The Trooper" by Iron Maiden
7. "Disposable Heroes" by Metallica
8. "Hallelujah" cover by Allison Crowe (pop remix)
9. "Know Your Enemy" by Green Day
10. "Ratfinks, Suicide Tanks and Cannibal Girls" by White Zombie
11. "Time's Running Out" by Cirrus
12. "Show Me How to Live" by Audioslave
13. "Ich Will" by Rammstein
14. "21 Guns" cover by Emma Watson

Did I do it right this time ?

Question for the OP:

You say you would have Rupert Grint play Natsuru? Why? Or, more specifically, why have him be the ONLY person to play the character? Wouldn't it be better to only have him play Natsuru in his male form and have a girl who's about the same age and looks alot like him (expect of course that she'd be a girl) play the female Natsuru, instead of having Rupert dress in drag and try to sound like a girl?

I know it probably seems like a late time to bring this up, however I only just discovered this post recently.

reply

This is far from my favorite anime, in fact its a middle tier show as far as harems go. But not to my most hated work would I assign such a God awful cast, and such a third rate director. None of those "actors" and I use those terms loosely match in appearance, or personality or anything with anyone you listed. And Paul Anderson shouldn't even be allowed to direct straight to dvd features.
