Sounds unrealistic!

I have never heard of a so called "true story" of an hungarian acting as an SS officer just to save his jewish family, and others. Something does'nt feel right about this historical film.
Has anyone ever heard of Raoul Wallenberg and Carl Lutz? The two diplomats who saved alot of the jewish citizens of Hungary.
Walking with the enemy seems to borrow this historical event, and has turned it into an unlikely story. That is the only story that I know of during the WW2 era in Budapest.
An hungarian man happens to recieve an SS uniform during the Nazi occupated Budapest. How is it possible then for him to know his rank, jurisdiction and his authority? he must even speak fluent german to succeed his role, but we will never know for all actors speak english.
To be honest, movies of this category claiming to be "based on true events" are always unlikey far off from the true story. It's only references, not actuality. All this by watching the trailer and it annoyed me.

The fact that you're unfamiliar with the story is irrelevant. Btw, the storyline says the film is "inspired by a true story", not "based on true events". It took me a couple of minutes to find information online about the original events. It's a fascinating story and I look forward to the film.

You should see the movie that is closer to the true story and was based on Solomon Perel's life: Europa Europa or read the autobiography: "I was Hitler Youth Salomon"

This movie isn't based on Solomon Perel's life, although I agree with your recommendation to see Europa Europa.

Truth is stranger than fiction.

The more you read about real stories of heroism during WWII, the more you will wonder why Hollywood ignores these stories and turns out fictional crapola like "Inglorious Basterds".

>>> I have never heard of a so called "true story" of an hungarian acting as an SS officer to save his family

The movie is based on a real life story. There are probably many of which you aren't familiar with, as a great many occurred during this period.

>>> just to save his Jewish family

He didn't save his family. He never even got the chance to. His family died in the camps. According to the movie, one of the reasons he was driven to save other Jews, is the outrage he felt about not being able to save his family.

>>> Has anyone ever heard of Raoul Wallenberg and Carl Lutz?

Lutz played a significant role in this movie. The movie's hero was working for Lutz. He was part of Lutz's efforts. Neither Lutz nor Wallenberg were working on their lonesome. They never would have been able to accomplish what they did, if they were. They both had people who assisted their efforts..

And you are probably not familiar with the stories of a lot of their helpers. If you were, you'd be aware Lutz wasn't working by his lonesome.

If you see the movie, instead of just the trailer, some of these mysterious might clear up for you.
