What is the purpose of the oxygen contraption Sherlock find at Mycroft's?
What does it contain? What does it do?

One would surmise that it allows you to breathe underwater and it's how Sherlock survived the plunge into Reichenbach Falls. Once it served its purpose, Sherlock returned it to Mycroft.

Then it was blind luck that he wasnt smashed against the rocks in the water , even surviving that fall is kinda impressive

Pure oxygen results in a natural high. You can usually get the same effect by walking outside, but perhaps not in turn-of-the-century smog filled London.

People tried to make "oxygen bars" trendy in the '00s, especially when this movie was written. It didn't work.

Actually thinking about it it could just have been for the elevation in Switzerland which Mycroft had complained about earlier.
