It seems like the first movie and this one takes place in late 1891 ? When Sherlock is released from prison in the first movie we see a newspaper dated november 1891 . Even Sherlock can't outsmart two dangerous criminals in such short time ????

Second, how long do you expect Watson's engagement to last? In the first film they are essentially engaged, they just haven't bought a ring yet and told people officially. The events of the second film can't have been much after the fact.
