I'm From Wisconsin And...
...I'm disappointed that this movie was filmed in Minnesota, not Wisconsin. Shameful.
shareNot really shameful. Just a good business choice. Minnesota offers about 15-20% off of all production expenditures for movies, documentaries, pilots, etc. So it costs production companies a lot less to film in Minnesota than Wisconsin.
Wisconsin used to have this, but it was realized that the law that Doyle wrote was royally screwed up when Public Enemies filmed here. The law he wrote was horrible and we paid almost 90% back instead of the 15-20% back (for example, he didn't write into the bill that we wont' reimburse taxes and things like that). Instead of improving the law, he just scrapped it.
I know the movie "Cedar Rapids" was initially supposed to film in IA, but they moved it to MI. The IA film tax credit thing was abused by some jerk off who used the money to buy an SUV (and possibly other things) instead of making a movie. He ruined it for other filmmakers. Like with many tax incentives (write-off's), people screw the system.
