Far superior to the Kick-Ass movies.

I think it's a great shame that this film is not more widely appreciated...

Agreed 100% and I really liked Kick-Ass. But this was a much more bleak, and in truth, brutally honest rendition of what real vigilantes would be like. People would have to be borderline psychotic to rationalize it to themselves, and there wouldn't really be anything professional or flashy about how they go about doing it...and they would not have a very high success rate.

I liked both movies but I think Kick-Ass 1 is miles ahead of this movie. This movie was bleak, and depressing. But that's what it was going for. In my opinion, Kick-Ass is way better.

I felt kick-ass was leagues ahead of this film. Both sound similar but are wildly different. Kick-Ass however for me had more interesting characters on a whole, was much funnier, had more style and charm an the action in kick-ass is amongst my favorite. Super was still good, but not as well developed or executed.

That's the point though, Super wasn't trying to be some sleek action-comedy, and that's why it's a much better film, in my opinion.

Yeah, I'm definitely a big fan of both, I just prefer the take that Super had.

But that is why they aren't really comparable. KA was a "sleek action comedy* but Super was good in a completely different way. I loved both.

I agree with Chrispy_G. I like Kick Ass too but this is more realistic. I enjoyed both in different ways. Its got such a sad ending. I was like omg i can't believe this. I guess I got used to all the happy ending movies. But I guess its a better end this way for Libby than being arrested and endure the harshness of prison life. I just wish she and Frank should spend more time together. Last sad ending movie I saw was V for Vindetta, which I also liked.

Felt Kick-Ass sucked balls, but freakin' loved this movie! It is way better, man.

reply

Far superior? Wouldn't really say so, the first Kick-Ass is really great (the second one is... good too, but with a lot of faults) but I think this is VERY close to the best superhero-movie ever. The best superhero movie of all time I think is Spider-Man, but this one comes really goddamn earned second place!
6.8?! Did they vote when on ecstasy? This movie is fantastic!

Both great films. Too different to compare.

Yeah; both are good films and they are different.

I like 'Kick Ass' better though ~

My vote goes to Hobo with a Shotgun though.

I don't know why people keep comparing them! They have similar concepts but they are a completely different style of film. I prefer KA but I still loved Super in a different way. KA was more of an feel good, action epic. Whereas Super was more of a black comedy.

I didn't really like Kick-Ass, don't know why. I'd heard it was meant to be funny, but I didn't see anything remotely resembling comedy. Nothing shocked me about Kick-Ass. The action scenes were well choreographed, but other than that I didn't feel anything for it. The characters were pretty blah, Hit Girl aside. The titular character was boring, and had no motivation other than "I want to be a super hero, I'm going to buy a costume on Amazon."

I enjoyed Super a lot more.

Calling Kick Ass a comedy is crime. A crime so vile, Crimson Bolt needs wrap the writer upside the head with a pipe wrench and split it open. Shut up Crime! There was nothing funny about it. It was lame and the movie was pretty boring. It's why the sequel failed so much. People didn't like the first one after being tricked into thinking it would be something else. Meanwhile the sequel is actually much more interesting and funny.
