Ellen Page ruined it

This film was OK and Ellen isn't my ONLY gripe with the film, but she is the biggest. While this was an over-the-top dark comedy all of the characters except hers seemed to at least have some ground in reality. She on the other hand, was not. The jumping and screaming during the action scenes wasn't funny, it was annoying. Also were we supposed to laugh at her trying to murder someone over a keyed car AND committing rape against Frank? Because if Frank had raped her people would have had a nutty.

I just watched this movie today and I agree, she was quite irritating. I didn't enjoy her character much at all in this one. I wouldn't say she ruined the movie for me but the rating definitely went down in my head once she actually became Boltie. I didn't mind her too much when she was just helping at the comic book store but once she started all those weird moves in her living room to show Frank her skills, it went downhill a little.

I enjoyed all of Frank's scenes though and she didn't take up too much screen time so I still find it a rather entertaining movie.

And I'm on the side of it was rape also, I'm not 100% sure how anyone can dispute it.

I thought she owned it.

The whole cast was great but she was a real highlight in the film. 

The rape scene was based off an experience the director had with a stripper.

A lot of the humor was meant to make you feel uncomfortable.

reply

you're on drugs she is brilliant.

imo

Thought she owned it ... she was supposed to be overexcited and irritating ...

reply

yeah she is over the top crazy, almost psychotic.

reply

The fact you are triggered because you don’t understand it isn’t a stain on the film. Just you.

Many of Ellen's fans can't swallow the idea that for the first time she played a bad character. It reminds me of when Bill Murray did his first non-comedy role in Razor's Edge. Everyone was like, BILL MURRAY SUCKED I DIDN'T LAUGH ONCE

reply

I could see that perspective. I have no horse in this race I’m not a fan or no fan.

I’ll rewatch it now since I never saw the office before but have since. Maybe I’ll like it even more

reply

I might watch it again also. I'm an Ellen Page fan so it definitely shocked me to see her play a character like this. The trailers were misleading too, making this look like a cute silly comedy. It's really a great movie once you realize the irony throughout. Sort of along the lines of Paul Veerhoven's scathing satires of human behavior (Starship Troopers, Robocop). Also, if you like dysfunctional superhero stories, definitely check out the obscure gem "Special"

I will be waiting for an apology from Hardline_Pro. Elliot has wing wang now and was always a man.

reply

He was known as Ellen at the time of this comment, you are either confused or just being a dick for attention.

reply

Ellen is a girl, now she is a dude? would be like an elephant wanting to be lion.

reply

Ellen/Elliot has a male brain, his body is just a shell. You are your brain.

If her character had been played by Jennifer Lawrence or Emma Stone, the emphasis would have been placed on facial expressions rather than volume, thus giving the Asian movie-style lunacy that James Gunn was striving for.
