Bob Shaye

I was almost certain he was going to cry. He is a great man who did something truly amazing.

Yeah. Bob was a great producer. I was surprised how creative the guy was/is. He came up with some awesome concepts for the original and the sequels. He confirmed it too that IMDb is wrong, he has NOTHING to do with the remake.

Its sad we don't have independent studios they we we use to its all major coperate stuff now. What New Line did and other independent studios did with horror back than was truly amazing and timeless and its not like that anymore.

I still find it incredible that even with the success of Lord of the Rings, that New Line still couldn't stand on its own two feet.

reply

I know..its odd isnt it! They made some massive film over the year! I could name a few I really enjoyed!

Well it was more to do with the fact that Shaye's number two, a bastard by the name of Tobey Emmerich, was trying to steal New Line away from Bob by greenlighting a bunch of *beep* (including the notoriously bad "Son of the Mask") and the poor box office returns would almost certainly get Shaye fired by the shareholders, leaving him in charge of his own studio.

He got half of it right. What he didn't count on was Warner Brothers just outright buying New Line. Bob was sick for a very long time and gone from New Line in the hospital. This was when Emmerich put his plan into motion. By the time Bob had recovered and came back, New Line was beyond repair.

This is why Bob seems so sad at times in the documentary. This was *beep* and it shouldn't have happened.

when i saw his name in the credits of the remake i was surprised but i figured it was just a title and had no meaning. he basically got paid for having his name there which he deserves since he's the reason that remake even exists regardless of his actual involvement.

It really did look like he was about cry, he genuinely did care about making the films, Wes also looked quite emotional whilst talking about it all towards the end, I couldn't help but feel a bit emotional as well lol fantastic documentary.

Who's Featherhead? He sounds exceptionally dangerous.

I almost wwanted to cry because I could remember getting excited about watching those movies as a kid and I had such a hard time growing up and those movies saved me and transported me to a world where I could be entertained and project my fears somewhere else.

New lines is legendary,no doubt about it.

I really don't know how to feel about Bob Shaye based on this documentary. They definately didn't put him in a very positive light, but then they would have little moments where he came off as a really caring, striking guy who cared about art and not money. But then people would sorta blame bad stuff on him, "Oh, that sounds like a Bob Shaye thing to do." Very interesting.

"I've flown this route before."
"When was that?"
"IT WAS ON THE WINGS OF A DEMON!"

That's nice. It seems to me that people are greedy. Im sure something was off at New Line. Someone was stealing money. As an independent studio, it makes millions of money and it still struggles... Who was pocketing all the money?

And why would you sale your company to corporate giants. Rob Shaye and the other executives look like crooks and incompetent in maintaining a good thing. Im disgusted.

There were a lot of other great independent films made under New Line too. One of my favorite movies distributed by them is called called Hangin' With The Homeboys. Shame they got swallowed by the machine, they were a great company.

Did he say he spoke Swedish with Renny Harlin (who is Finnish)..?
