Just Watched Third Star - Beautiful!

Just watched Third Star and what a lovely little film, but at the same time heartbreaking. I cried a lot! I really hope more people get to see this, so I urge you to buy it on DVD. It seemed like such a truthful way of showing how people deal with the reality of a close friend who is dying.

Great performances all round.

I agree. A pleasure to watch a film with people reacting to one another in a real way.

I ended up watching this on my iPhone. While I'm sure I've missed stuff, it certainly created an air of intimacy about the experience! It's nice to see a little activity on this board, since I've been rather desperate to talk about it.

There are some movies that I can watch and enjoy but that immediately leave me. This one I watched, enjoyed, and have kept thinking about. I knew going into it that it would be a character study, so the pacing didn't bother me. What I like the most about this film is that the characters are not really archetypes. They sort of are, on the surface, but even with the broadest of strokes you can see so much more. I have no idea how they made these characters so complete with so little time for each.

I'm glad you liked this film. I did too. You should consider watching it again on a bigger screen. The visuals are great and its a part of Wales that I love as well. However, even with the great locations the focus of it was the characters and their relationships to each other. Nice to see a film that distract from the story with all manner of diversions.

True! It's painful to watch but it's so well done, brilliant cast.

I wish I could buy the DVD. They haven't released it in Region 1 and I don't have a no-region DVD player.

It is a small intimate film and does demand close and quiet surroundings.

I don't know if I'll make it, but watch how good I'll fake it

Just watched it, and made me cry a lot as well. The performances are amazing and intense, this movie is really a jewel.

I hate the fact that I get to watch it because of JJ Feilds, otherwise I'd have never heard of it. We miss a lot of amazing movies in this part of the world

Do you feel in charge?

reply

I agree. We do miss a great deal of wonderful films! My mother wonders why I always look into additional work by actors that I like; such as JJ Feild, Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Burke. They do tend to be from the UK. This is why! It is the only way to find films that were not released in the US.

*That moment when a movie emotionally cripples you*

Two words: Benedict. Cumberbatch.
The versatility of his acting continues to amaze me. After this movies I'm pretty sure I need a cookie and a hug. Remarkable.

I saw this film today and it just blew me away! It's so beautiful, very moving and had me crying at the ending. The film was better than I thought it was going to be. I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend it to everyone.
Benedict Cumberbatch continues to amaze me with his incredible acting and you truly feel not only for his character, but for the others as well. A brilliant story!

I just watched this and now I'm an utter mess. Beautiful film. Well done. The performance by Benedict Cumberbatch was heartbreaking. This film really stays with you after it ends-- can't stop thinking about it now. There was quite a lot of symbolism in the film particularly with the feather and the multiple shots of birds. I want to see it again but my poor broken heart needs some time before I rewatch it.

I've already watched this three times since renting it, read the screenplay, and just bought the DVD from the UK. Benedict is as usual stunning - this film feels totally real and raw (I have several friends who have gone through struggles with cancer, one through several years of chemo, radiation, and stem cell transpants, and watching their suffering and the side effects of the procedures was devastating). I would love to see this get rereleased in theaters now that Benedict is a household name - surely he should get an award for his performance in what is a very difficult role.
