Am I the only one getting sick of this crap?

Seriously, the whole "average-joe superhero" angle is now boring the piss out of me. Been done to death.

reply

showing sex, people that cant keep their clothes on, and people that don't understand what sex is about is the only thing i see done to death. porn is for that.

You obviously didn't see it as this film is far from average. It's a pretty unique take on the genre. There are no tired cliche moments here. The writing is witty and fresh, the characters are believable, the acting, well I couldn't fault anything I saw. This movie charmed me and I think you should give it a shot.

If it has to be compared to something, Defendor is probably the closest as both movies deal with mental illness or just people who see things differently, depending on your take on it.

reply

I thought it was fairly similar to The Science Of Sleep, just with a superhero theme.

Did you even watch the movie?

Their wasnt even a superhero IN the movie!

So how can a guy pretending to be a super hero be an average joe superhero.

You should watch, or at least understand the movie before commenting on it.

reply

No. This movie was just awful. There are no excuses for making rubbish like this.

reply

Yep, gotta agree with beth.
This movie was awful.
After the 3rd suit was demonstrated to be more insanity induced delusion I had had enough.

I am sick of slow paced, 'quirky' australian films.(and I am australian)
You hold out hoping something, anything will actually happen.

Nothing new here, even if it was not exactly the same as another movie I certainly felt like I had seen it all before.

reply

You obviously haven't watched the movie.

Since the so called super-hero angle is kinda a minor part of the movie.

and he doesn't have some sort of moronic show down ala "Super" at the end of it. Which has absolutely no consequences or anything apparently

movie isn't the greatest though it has awesome music. and is kinda let down by the end

reply

Put this troll on ignore, problem solved.

I'm not one to complain at much, but I'm really enjoying it, not quite done with it yet... People are saying been there done that, but How long has Superman, Spiderman, The HULK, been around, on TV/Movies/Cartoons, let alone print... It's nice to see that an average joe, one maybe a little on the quirky side, can be a hero... Hasn't any one that's posted here ever wanted to don a mask and help someone else, anonymously... You can say, no, that's just stupid, or that wouldn't happen in real life... Some of you are from The Great Land Of OZ, so I urge you to look up Phoenix Jones, that is, if you don't know who he is already...

1 - There's probably all of about 5-10 minutes of any hero footage, and that isnt particularly super.
2 - Griff was far from average. Aside from being so socially awkward that he couldn't hold down a job or have any friends, he also suffered from an unmentioned mental condition
3 - The whole thing was in his head anyway, so the only 'fighting' he did was when he had the crap kicked out of him.
4 - As a poster mentioned, there arent any hero cliches, there aren't any powers, there arent any bad guys (unless you count the dick he worked with), he doesnt save anything or anyone.
This is NOT a superhero movie (I can understand why people would think so with a title like that). In fact, it's not even an action movie, it is a drama with elements of romance and comedy, and I think that most of the 'haters' disliked this film because they went and saw it thinking it was going to be something completely different with explosions every 5 minutes like Kick-Ass, and instead they got a beautiful and warming story that was brilliantly performed.
Perhaps these people should stick to Michael Bay movies...

reply

Agreed with Blathnat69. This was a beautiful love story about two people (with possible mental illnesses) who meet and fall for each other.

I think the people who are so put off by the movie went in thinking it was going to be an action film. It's not that.

reply

i think there are about 4 or 5 of those types of movie!

compared to other types of movie thats really not many :p

if theres more, prove it

I hate to bump this thread, but inadvertantly the OP makes an interesting point: this wide-eyed innocence (experienced by Griff) is what actually draws us to "real" super-hero movies. About half-way through I thought, "Oh yeah, like some idiot is going to run around town in spandex saving the world!" I was then confronted with my own cheering on of Spider-man, Batman, et. al. As some level we all still want to believe it (just look at the box office totals for Avengers!).
