Clash song...

I wonder if there is a connection to the Clash song of the same name?

yes, that's where the girl's name came from in the story.

Yeah I was just coming here to ask the same thing!!!

Janie Jones is actually a real person, by the way, who inspired the Clash song. She was a British madame in the 60s/70s who got busted for her involvement with prostitutes and sex parties. Supposedly she was involved in some payola scandal (radio play for sex). It seems more likely that the inspiration for the title is Janie Jones herself, not so much the Clash song.

reply

I saw the title, and I knew that there would be a message board topic about this. Love the Clash.

reply

Yeah I saw the trailer link on the front page and thought to myself "did they make a Joe Strummer movie?" which would've been awesome had it been true, but as we know, all good things are let-downs. Or something like that.

BTW a Joe Strummer movie is in the works.

I came across this movie on GetGlue and came here to find out if it was any relation to The Clash song, ha. I love The Clash, too!

reply

Doubt it. The real Janie Jones is barely known outside of the UK as it is. The idea that a musician would name his daughter for an obscure madame is silly. It's more plausible that he named her after the famous rock song.

reply

The musician wasn't aware of her existence until she was already 13. He couldn't have had anything to do with naming her.

On a semi-related note, I viewed this movie's info because of the Clash connection, specifically because I noticed Frank Whaley in the cast. Whaley starred in "Career Opportunities", another Clash great.
