a couple of issues I have about this movie

I love this movie, but I wonder about the cop just handing over the girl to the guy she says is her father just because her mother told her that's who her father is.

Also, after Ethan gets arrested, no one including the cops think twice about the young girl left behind at the bar.

The mother, Mary Ann, carried a copy of Janie's birth cerificate. That's how she got through the security and convinced the band's manager. Before she split that scene, she left the certificate with Janie. The cop presented the certificate as evidence to Ethan.

The second one seems inexplicable. Perhaps artistic license to isolate Janie. There were approximately fifty witnesses to get statements from. If she stayed in the background during the fight and arrest, she would not have been missed. The portrayal of the leerers suggests she wasn't seen as a child, but rather as an adult posing as a child as part of the act.

I agree. When the cop handed her over, I found myself going "Whaaaa???" I would think that 99 times out of 100, in real life the cop would hand the kid over to Family Services rather than to a tour bus full of stoners.

It depends, I'd imagine if they know who the other parent is there's some kind of presumption that they have to give them to that parent rather than take them into custody themselves. Otherwise kids could be kept away from their parents pretty easily. I'm not sure if the cop can make a snap judgment re the suitability of the parents, and choose to hand the child over or not (unless something is very amiss). These are just assumptions though.

The fact that Janie didn't object may be why the cop handed her over to Ethan.

I think you all are under the shared delusion that cops are competent. Have you ever had to deal with them? They are mostly a joke.

It sounds like you got quite the rap sheet there, bud

Janie told the cop about how she and her mother traveled to see her father. So then only did the cop approach Ethan at the tour bus. Since he was her legal guardian and since Janie was abandoned by her mother he asked her what she wanted. Yes, as a cop probably he should have got things verified and done background checks or something since it's a kid involved.

About the arrest, well that confuses me too.
