Optimism at its fullest

I usually love depressing movies, but i liked "Le Havre" a lot, too. I think it is the most (well-crafted) optimistic movie i have ever seen.

Another thing i want to point out is that Finland is rightly not regarded a Scandinavian country: i guess i would have to search a great deal to find such an optimistic movie from, e.g, Sweden.

Optimistic films from Sweden: Lasse Hallstrom's My Life as a Dog and Lukas Moodysson's Together.

Thank you very much for your suggestions:)

You're welcome. I hope, if you watch either, that you enjoy them. I'm looking forward to Le Havre which is being released in March where I live.

Just saw it today at the GFT and it was absolutely wonderful. Humorous, but at the same time very sweet and tender. André Wilms has such an expressive, beautiful face - a lifetime of experience etched there. And I loved Jean-Pierre Darroussin's world-weary policeman, but the whole cast was great. I can only describe the film as moving and very, very heart-warming in the best possible way.

Dividing countries into arbitrary groups is stupid in the first place, as is arguing over whether or not they should be included in said arbitrary groups.

What I love about this film, and Kaurismäki's humanistic optimism, is that it's never forced, always EARNED.
