This is not a Jaws style movie(mild spoilers)

Just so everyone knows because the synopsis given by Imdb is misleading. This movie is not a "killer shark" movie. This is a realism kind of flick. The whole basis is that halle's character swims with great whites without the cage and in the start an accident happens and someone dies causing her to give up the shark swims.Enter rich guy who wants to swim with sharks minus the cage and the movie goes from there.a very large portion of this film displays the beauty of the great white, there is very little in the way of attacks or kill shots and the few people throughout the film that do die do so off screen. Its a decent drama is suppose but the main characters dont enter any real danger until the last 20 mins of the 110 min movie.(there are some random poachers that get eaten in a random 10 min sequence at one point but trust me that knowledge spoils nothing for you, as soon as you see these 3 nameless people enter the water you know whats going to happen and to be honest it felt like the whole scene was an after thought that was shoe horned into the movie considering what great lengths the movie goes to pretty much tell you that these are majestic creatures that can be dangerous.Having 3 people get eaten randomly just seemed out of place in this film). If your looking for a Jaws or deep blue sea style chomp fest this isnt the movie for you

Wow thanks for the review. Totally won't watch it now. It's been a while since a jaws-esque movie was out, and I'm REALLY bummed now as I WAS looking forward to seeing this.

yea i was hoping for a more realistic single shark stalking a beach style movie. sadly the closest thing i have seen since jaws was "the reef" and even that was sub-par

If you want to watch a "jaws" kind of movie, look up "The Reef, should give you what you want. There's also another new movie, can't recall its name, but it's about some young kids getting killed by a shark in a lake...

Agree, THE REEF is a pretty awesome, terrifying shark attack movie. And IN THE DEEP is very good as well, a little better than THE SHALLOWS, imho

Thanks for that! Glad to know it. I may watch this, afterall. I enjoy poachers getting killed. People are killing sharks off to extinction, and I can't stand movies/shows that show sharks as bloodthirsty killers when reality is people are the bloodthirsty killers. Peter Benchley who wrote Jaws became a shark defender before he died and said he could never write Jaws again, knowing what he came to know.

On a side note, the documentary Sharkwater by Rob Stewart is not only beautiful but exciting (though not for those with a weak stomach) that has real shooting (at people) and is well done. You won't see sharks eating people but it still keeps you at the edge of your seat throughout. You can watch the trailer at Sharkwater.com if you want to check it out.

They were abalone poachers. Not shark poachers. I don't think they deserved getting crunched to death for poaching some shellfish... but that's just me.
