4 out of 5 amazing Steven best since Traffic or Oceans 11

Just got back from the Houston screening thank you Steven for going back to the basics.

Is it better than Salt? I was really excited to see Salt and then it turned out to just be a whatever action movie that didn't stand out from anything else aside from Jolie's big lips.

Waaay better than Salt in terms of craftsmanship, believable action, and direction. Carano is much much better suited to playing the action type. Jolie's legs look like chopsticks you could snap with your fingers if you had to

Not too much on Jolie. You don't have to have thunder-thighs in order to kick ass in an action film. Jolie is believable when it comes down to doing the stunts that are necessary to make sure that you see that it's her on the screen doing it. As small as she is, she makes it work and Salt had believable action as well as a more cohesive story to it than people make it out. Salt had believable action for a WOMAN of Jolie's size, and Carano's movie had believable action for a MAN on MAN but replace the man with Carano.

Not Often Enough In My Opinion.

I thought that Jolie did not have enough force to her punches to knock out some of the agents in Salt, and as a result couldn't get into it. Haywire was WAAAAYYYY better!

Jolie didn't throw a single punch in the film though. Watch it more carefully next time. She's also not a real fighter so you have to suspend your disbelief a bit more to enjoy the film because Jolie can't throw a solid punch like Carano would be able to, surely. No more than watching Gina Carano's painfully dull acting skills on the screen right? I LOVED Haywire so that's no diss on the film itself, but Carano is no actress and she couldn't pull off what should've been some nuanced subtlety to her role like Jolie did in Salt.

Back to how Jolie didn't throw a punch real fast. They designed the fighting to be very respondent to how a woman would react going against a man or a few men. She used her elbows, knees, head-butts, the palm of her hands, and even her guns to incapacitate them from very critical points on the body that, no matter who would hit you there, with the right amount of force you're out cold.

Not Often Enough In My Opinion.

The opinions on this movie are so bizarre so far. I've never seen so much polarization... :|

One of the worst movies in the last 10 years. Mallory finds out that a bad guy is hiding in Mexico. Next thing ya know...with no tracking device or any information...she finds him walking on the beach. Wow, I didn't realize Mexico was so small that you could just go there and find anyone you want. Surely the director, the "genuius" Soderburgh who can do no wrong for so many of you, will explain this huge flaw, right?

reply

this is what happens when you take the genre a little too seriously....soderbergh was having fun with it, which is exactly why the plot is so pared down.....visually it looks like an art film and i don't know about you, but i'd much rather watch gina fight than steven seagal

sorry you had a miserable time, though...maybe the pg-13 rated expendables 2 will be more to your liking

I like to think of myself as a young critic (i'm 16). Lately I've been really hating on the films released, but I decided to just sit back, relax, and watch this... and it was fun as hell!
