Now that I've seen it...(Possible Spoilers)

Now that I have seen it...

I avoid giving a rating until I watch a movie. I leave it at '5' until then and now that I've seen it I give this movie an 8. I enjoyed it, there were only a couple of things I didn't like but that was more to do with pacing and scenes than the rest of the film making.

I didn't like the scene where Albert turned on Logue. Now I know Logue over stepped by grabbing Albert's shoulder but in a movie that asks me to care for this man, having him act like that took away some of that empathy. Historians will jump me if it really took place but that's just how I felt seeing it for the first time.

I think the movie slowed down, but just for bit, during the scenes where Logue is treating him. I had expected this to take up more of the movie than it did but I know the director was trying to cram all he could into a 2-hour space.

Other than those two very minor details I liked this movie a lot. And it is weird that in the scene with his brother I was fully expecting Bertie to haul off and break his brothers jaw. After all the jackass would have had it coming. Even though I know such a thing could never have actually happened among the royal family. At least in that time period. :) And it is interesting that in the speech scene his brother is listening and I like to think that Edward had a lot of guilt sticking him in the gut right about then over how he had treated his younger brother.

In this day and age of forty explosions per minute of film time it is nice that they do still make movies like this and they don't have to be some vague French art-film with bad filters and over dramatic gestures.
