What?? This is not a comedy, there are NO funny scenes.
"Oh but the director's commentary says the preview audience laughed when the princesses curtsied to their father.
No, that is not funny, that is a pathetically sick example of this dysfunctional "family".
For me, the funniest part is in the credits!! What??!!
Way down the list, we learn that Logue's wife is Myrtle, a plain middle-aged woman who is on screen for about 70 seconds (half of which is the back of the head), says nothing of note, is a totally forgettable character.
But... Myrtle is played by Jennifer Ehle (pronounced Eelee). And I laughed out loud.
Coz, the day before watching TKS, I watched TYL, "This Year's Love". Ehle played the part of Sophie, aged 30, unmarried, drinks, smokes, has dreads, has a son, gets a tattoo, has an abortion, bed-wrestles quite a bit.
It is a stunning performance. NOBODY could forget this character.
Lots of laughs. It is a superb film with great performances from all the cast.
But hey, TKS is at 8.1, got Oscars, and grossed Millions, but TYL is only at 6.1, from very few, and probably didn't cover it's costs.
The contrast between Myrtle and Sophie is so great, only an Easter Island statue would refrain from laughing.
Life is SO unfair?
My guess is that Ehle was paid more for TKS than for TYL, but I would guess she regards the latter more highly.
TYL is on UT, watch?v=sSJ0isLg2vw&list=PL9nTY9gN7wcUglrkkyGFKM50hBVQZhZdI

...it's a whole lot harder to shine.... than undermine.
