Upside Down Badges?

Watching this with my parents, and my father has noticed that, in several scenes now, the Royal Navy badges of the officers have been pinned on upside down. Surely a continuity or historical expert would have noticed this over several weeks of filming? Or does anybody know if there is a reason that the badges can only appear upside down on film?

I noticed that the Captain RN stationed in Sierra Leone wore his rank shoulder boards back to front - there is a right way of wearing them so that the "tail" of the curl faces to the rear. That would earn the officer the price of a round in the wardroom. Its easily done in a hurry; maybe the Captain dressed in a hurry after the morning telecall and put his boards on back to front...OK I know its not real ! :-)
I didnt see any other howlers though; although the officer that went down with Captain Sharp on the bridge did seem to be wearing a Commander RN's uniform jacket when all of the other officers were in MN uniform jackets.

oh, and I noticed that same Captain RN with the shoulder boards "going astern" gave an army salute to his junior officers. A Navy salute is quickest way up and quickest way down with palm facing in. An army salute is longest way up quickest way down and palm out.
American salutes have different practices and traditions, and salute without caps on in many cases.
