What was going on backstage between NPH and that other guy?

Did anyone notice right before the first commercial break, when they had the screen split and you could see backstage goings-on, Neil berating that guy? I watched it several times on my DVR and it didn't look like a joke. I wonder what was going on?

I think there was an episode of "Doogie" when Doogie got wasted and was busted for DWD (driving while Doogied)!
