The Ending (spoilers)

I'm curious what people thought of the ending.

I would have ended it just before we see Sherman has cut his wrist. I think by including those last seconds, the film becomes more about his death, rather than about his relationship with the Pages. I don't see his death as inevitable or maybe it's that I don't see it as immediate.

I know other people disagree. But why?

It depends on what kind of story the director wants to tell. With this ending, it was clear to the audience that there wasn't any hope for Sherman. He made small attempts to blend in during the movie, but ultimately he realised that he was forever changed and he could never adapt to a normal life. I think the ending was good.

Exactly, what he wanted (a house, a wife, kids), simply wasn't in the cards for him. So he gave up.

When I'm gone I would like something to be named after me. A psychiatric disorder, for example.

I agree with this. I don't want to say I liked the ending, but it fit the story.
