Unrelated Segments


Well, the last thing I expected was to hear a forgotten garage band like the Unrelated Segments used as the backdrop to a transitional scene. Something P. T. Anderson would do. Makes me think there's some talent lurking behind the scenes here.

Very good, careful direction went into this, and a real flair for getting strong performances out of actors. I quite liked the scene with the bartender, where he dismisses the fruity drinks. More moments like that, and less like the painful breakup scene, and you'd have something that would turn a few heads, like Blue Valentine did. You wouldn't mind that, would you?

Now that you made your damn mumblecore movie, here's your next assignment: a Western, which uses free jazz by Albert Ayler or Giuseppi Logan as background music. Let them try and ignore that one!
