I agree that this was a waste of Rashida. This film epitomized why I have become totally disillusioned with Indie film -- in the early days people with real talent were making Indies (Whit Stillman, Wes Anderson, etc) but now the genre has been overrun by talentless film school hacks who can't write interesting screenplays or direct without constant use of shaky-cam and low lighting to disguise poor basic skills and to make scenes more "mysterious" and so on.
I honestly wish that Rashida would land better roles -- she has this genuine sweetness and always seems like the coolest chick in the room in addition to her natural beauty. She has a great talent for comedy -- I don't think that drama is really her thing. But this film was a mess so who knows.
"I love those redheads!" (Wooderson, Dazed and Confused, 1993)
i especially corroborate now the genre has been overrun by talentless film school hacks who can't write interesting screenplays or direct without constant use of shaky-cam and low lighting to disguise poor basic skills and to make scenes more "mysterious" and so on.
