Bad casting

After vaguely remembering this film being featured on one of Jonathan Ross's shows when it was in production, I finally got round to renting it. Not a bad film; I didn't find it great but it was a harmless rom-com. However, this is one of the first times I've ever been truly distracted by a badly chosen and mis-matched cast.

This is not to say I thought the cast's performances were bad - far from it (though I did find the French friend very irritating and Martin Freeman incredibly 'slappable'). But it just didn't work for me.

Mandy Moore, IMO, looked too young for Martin Freeman. I didn't get any chemistry from them, so the 9 year marriage thing didn't work for me. Then you've got Melissa George, aka, random Australian chick, married to Jonathan Silverman, aka random American guy. Again, didn't buy them as a couple. Freeman's character, for whatever reason, has an American boss. Moore's got the French BFF.

Of course I realise that in the modern world, most countries are melting pots of people of different ethnicities and cultures but in this movie, it was just too much for me. I found myself wondering where these people had come from, why were they all living in London, why were the Finkels friends with Peter and Janet, etc.
