NO combat?!

I heard that there's going to be no cobat in this game at all. It's all about evading monsters instead. I know all of the SH games are mostly about evading, but they at least give the the choice on whether or not you whant to fight. Does anyone else thinks that this sucks!

From Wikipedia:
Gameplay
The player will be observed and evaluated by the game as they play and their actions will have an effect on multiple aspects of play with the town, its attendant monsters and characters' attitudes and clothing changing according to the player's choices. One of the prerelease videos provided suggests that players will fill in a psychological evaluation form at the start of a new game, suggesting that the process of evaluating the player begins quite early.

Harry is equipped with a cell phone which he can use to check the map via GPS, receive text- and audio-messages, take pictures and call numbers. In the Wii version, the Wii Remote will be used for puzzle solving and to control the player's flashlight and cell phone.[1] Checking scattered diary pages and documents has been eliminated in favour of visually scanning the environment and utilizing the cell phone to zoom in on small objects and text and to reveal hidden messages by taking pictures.[5] Combat has been removed from the game with emphasis placed instead on evading encounters with monsters entirely.[6]

worthplaying.com states that the non-combat element was for the 'nightmare sequence' only.

I hope that's correct.

Well, in the trailer, Cheryl says; "You have to run daddy, you can't fight them."

It's hard playing without weapons like the previous installments. I get my ass kicked in the nightmare portions. And these bastards come DEEP!!!

I really liked how immersive it was. It heightened the level of simple un-ease of the mystery/puzzle part of the game into the realm of something genuinely chilling (much like the first SH on PS1.) It was actually something along the lines of the exact opposite of SH 1. The bad gameplay mechanics for combat was explained by the fact that Harry was not the cliche (ex-military, mercenary, bad or bon cop, ect...) but just some guy. They took the story and wrapped it around the mechanics. Now the deck is improved enough that the mechanics could be right (look at RE 4 for Wii) but instead they took the gameplay and wrapped it around the story. And it was goooooood. But that's just me though. Puzzle/mystery and story will get me. I like the Survival/horror splatterfests just fine as well as the bulletslinging FPS and the buttonslash 3rd person action fantasy gorefests. But SHSM took a chance, offending the fratboy crowd to walk in the shallows of the deep hardcore gamer.

Having no combat excited me more than anything about this game... I love everything about Silent Hill games... except the fighting. It's difficult and frustrating, which does NOT make it scary. To me, scary is when you're facing something that can kill you very quickly, but you can't kill it.

Dodging berserkers in Gears of War was scary.
Running from that creature that regenerates instantly in Dead Space was scary.
Clumsily trying to wack a skinless dog that won't hold still, using a heavy pipe that's difficult to swing because you used all of your pistol ammo on a nurse in the previous room is not scary. It just pisses me off.

I liked this game-- very imaginative way to re-invent the game.

Now while I don't think Silent Hill should be a combat-centric game.. I do like to have the option. In "Homecoming" there was too much combat IMO and you couldn't really avoid it like in the other games if you chose to. (though I still enjoyed it) But in this one-- you don't have any option but to run. That really annoyed me sometimes.

This game is enjoyable-- but it didn't scare me like the other games did. I knew I wouldn't be attacked in the 'Normal" silent hill and that I only had to run in the freaky silent hill.

I didn't ever feel that delicious shiver of fear go down my spine like it did with the other games.
