Just an observation, but in the 1978 movie, Laurie is hardly presented as a bad-ass. She may have developed those traits over time. But she spends most of her time running and hiding. She did protect the kids, but more so by continually running and hiding with them. It was Dr. Loomis that came and saved her at the end. So, you could argue that 'running and hiding for 20 years' is more in keeping with the tone set in the original.
To answer your question, I enjoyed both Halloween 2018 and H20. But personally, I preferred the 2018 movie a bit more. Laurie was shown as a bit of a bad-ass. She'd had 40 years worth of PTSD, so I didn't feel it was out of character. Not that she wasn't shown that way in H20, as well. But somehow, 2018 seemed to flow out of the original film more. If that makes sense?
