Why did the Accountant have to ask about Milton?

At the church he questioned a man wearing a wig who's arm had been shot off by Milton.
Why do you all want Milton?
We don't want Milton. He's following us.
Why?
Cause of what we done and who we got.
Well, color me curious, but what did you do and who have you got?

Wouldn't he already know all this if he's chasing Milton? It seemed like he was piecing everything together as he goes.

Does a bounty hunter know why anyone jumps bail or escapes from prison? They just know they escaped/ran and the "Warden" wants them back. However, if you were a bounty hunter, it would behoove**snicker** you to do a little detective work so you can properly track said bounty.

Exactly. All the Accountant knew is Milton escaped from hell and he was sent to bring him back. He had no idea why Milton escaped. He slowly finds out towards the end of the movie which is why he decides to help Milton.
