5.5 is too low

I rented this movie, knew what I was expecting, and walked away satisfied. I gave it a 7.

I was thinking 5.5 was way too high.

This movie was bad. And I wanted to love it. I did. But come on... it was bad.

I thought the story was so weak. He's trying to get his grandkid back. Ok. But he's pursuing people who cannot kill him. There was never any real jeopardy that Cage wouldn't survive b/c he can't be killed.

The story was bad.

The story about how he was able to break out of hell seems 10 times more interesting to me. But they just glazed over that part.

Good intentions, hot Amber Heard, bad film.

It was good, there are honestly worse films that exist. This was entertaining, which is all it really needed to be. When one pays for a Nic Cage movie, you have to expect what you are buying and often times that means cheesy over acting that would make a mime choke, sometimes cough*GhostRider*cough its even worse than that. But now and then you'll get a really good time which is what movies like this are.

It's not like I hated it. I know the filmmakers were trying to make a fun wild ride. they knew it was cheesy with bad acting, etc. I don't mind all that. I just wish they had done a little more work on the story. Don't you think the entire film was a bit anti-climatic? Cage was never in danger of dying. The part where he was shot and we "think he died" makes no sense. As revealed in the climax, he can't be killed. So why did he lay on the floor while they escaped? I also hate the whole, "We're trying to kill Amber Heard, but now that Cage is dead we need to not kill her, but just kidnap her."

Like I said, I didn't hate the film. I wanted to go along for the ride. A little more work on the story and this could've been really fun.

I always assumed he actually was killed when he was shot in the face, but his wound healed and he was brought back to life. hence the eye sight returning when they stop off at his old friend's garage.

also responding to Liam above - there comes a point when even ridiculous potboilers like this stretch the limits of credibility. Amber Heard's entire presence in the movie was merely eye candy - she wasn't necessary at all for the story to proceed. And when Cage is shot in the eye - and said eye grows back into his head, I kept waiting for her to react somehow.....just to notice that the dude not only survived a shot to brain, but his eye actually grew back into his head....and I kept waiting, and waiting....of course, there are those who will say, "Don't you get it, man?!? She's *supposed* to not react! Because it's....a bad movie! Get it?!"

Nope.

I think, maybe a 6.5, with some disclaimers... YMMV, void where prohibited by law, etc...
I did not like the first Tomb Raider because Laura Croft was barely challenged be her adversaries... There was no danger of her failing or even getting more than a scratch.

Milton (played by cage) was not in danger of dying either, but the cultists did slow him down and The Accountant could have stopped Milton or brought Milton back and the cultist could have done what they wanted. So in this way Drive Angry was better. Also Amber is hotter >>>> than Jolie IMHO. Again, YMMV...

I agree - I also gave it a 7

I saw this movie for the first time 2 days ago and I gave it a 1. It was absolutely a horrible movie! I knew as soon as I found out Nic Cage was in it, that it was going to suck big time! The only reason why some people enjoyed this movie is because of the nudity, sex scenes and hot chicks. You might as well rent a porno if that turns you on.

I concur.
Very disappointed to see that after two years its rating is still 5.5.

I agree, it's at least 7.

this movie is absolutely amazing, my rating is 8.

IMDB users ara a brunch of idiots, pathetic nerds giving 9 to films just watchable as Fast & furious movies and instead, give 5 to this cool movie.

5.5 is too low

Agreed. it's one of the very few movies that have a 5.x/10 or lower average score that i gave a 7/10 or higher to. this movie should have no lower than the low 6.x/10 range for the average, but probably more in the high 6's or so as i have seen much weaker movies score well into the 7.x/10 or higher ranges.

i gave it a solid 7/10 which makes it within my Top 225 movies in general simply because there is only 225 movies out of the 1,950+ total i have seen that i scored a 7 or higher to on IMDb.

i just finished re-watching it just now on May 3rd 2016 (my previous re-watch of it was Nov 10th 2013) and it held steady. i have seen this movie at least 3 times now, possibly a bit more.

basically... the movie is carried by the general style of it along with Nicolas Cage/Amber Heard/William Fichtner. it's also paced pretty well to as my interest in it holds pretty steady throughout it.
