confusion in the friars chambers...

When Romeo and Juliet go to the Friars chambers to be married the Friar does not go into the "chambers" with them... So what are we led to believe? Did they just set up a elaborate "hook-up" with the help of their friends? Or are we led to believe they met up alone to exchange personal vows to the other? If so, why not show that scene? I feel that scene would have added more depth into it, not to mention adding more memorable lines from Shakespeare. Or is it all up to the viewer to decide? Personally, (and its my opinion) I hope its the ladder.

When theres no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth.

It's been a while since I read Romeo and Juliet, but in the film, I believe the Friar did not go with him because it was suppose to be insinuate sex. They very well could have been exchanging vows, but they did not show us.

Given that the line said just before they go into the Friar's chamber is "Go incorporate two in one." The purpose of them entering alone was to "consummate the marriage." There were a few lines which could have been included from that scene, but they're in a school and not actually getting married, so why extend this scene when it wasn't necessary?

And I've seen many adaptations including the Leo/Claire version where the marriage ceremony itself is heavily stylized. I think it is always meant to be fantastical in modern movie adaptations.. if only to keep the movie flowing at a nice rate.

Weddings in drama films are usually skipped because it is ceremony and most of the love scenes are intense before and after. I notice more comedies stay on the ceremony itself if there are any hi-jinks. :)
