Glaring plot hole *SPOILER ALERT*

OK so after Luke is captured, Markus wanted him dead in fear of him exposing him after the harsh conditions of prison. Although this seemed pretty inhumane after Luke's loyal service and the fact that he didn't snitch on him after being captured, it's still understandable from a business perspective.

However, why did he still try to get Luke killed, even with more urgency than before, when he was entered into the Death Race and was winning? Surely, since the winner wins his freedom, he should wait and see if he will win, and perhaps even helping him win by targeting the other racers? Even if he doesn't do this, he could at least wait and see if someone else will take Luke out anyways and save his million bucks?

If Luke really was like a brother to him then his actions here simply doesn't make sense. Buuuuut in the end I guess the plot doesn't matter in a movie like this...

Glaring? Hardly.

You have to win 5 races. Not just 1. Even if Luke had won the first race, he'd have to win 4 more. Maybe luke wins another but what if he loses and simply feels continuing to race puts his life in jeopardy? Easier to rat out Kane and get out of prison than race, right?

Also death race was a new venture and might not have panned out. Kane was simply as you said taking care of business.

The better argument could be made why he simply didn't try to get him out. The film eludes to Kane being able to get Katrina out if she kills Luke. But if he could get her out, why not Luke? Maybe he was lying to Katrina is the only answer.

According to these message boards, a plot hole is: A) Something I missed when I wasn't paying attention; B) Something I didn't agree with; C) Something I didn't understand; or D) Anything that wasn't explicitly explained or shown onscreen.

It's COO-pon, not CUE-pon.

Luke didn't want to be released, so he would've stayed there like Ian McShane in the first movie. He never would've accepted a bargain with the D.A. Kane was wasting his time doing that, as all it did was get himself killed.
