Not bad for a B movie. I was wondering if anyone knew why Jason Statham didn't return or if he was even offered a return role etc?

this was a prequel to the 2008 version with Statham. It would have made no sense if he was in this film. All the events in this film predate the film Jason starred in. Don't be confused by the "2". This is a prequel, not sequel.

Thanks man. Yeah, after I posted the question I later put it all together. Kinda wonder if they went the prequel route because Jason Statham didn't want to go the sequel route.

The 2008 version ends with him escaping. Would've been pointless to have a DEATH RACE sequel following Statham, right?

I mean, how would they get him back to prison to race with a new warden?

I think the only way to go was prequel.
