Good god Jane Horrocks singing is awful,flat and out of tune,sorry i thought she would have been much better than this,
shareHer singing isn't awful, and she's wasn't out of tune. She actually is an extremely talented mimic, and although she may not have got Gracie 100% it was a pretty fair imitation.
shareIt's just on now here in Australia, and I have to say I agree with you alan_and_john. Her pitching is quite uncertain, and her tone is shrill throughout (not only in the upper register) - neither of them qualities I would associate with the real Gracie Fields' singing.
But while Jane Horrocks may be a reasonable mimic, I've never thought she was a decent singer - most of her singing in "Little Voice", for instance, was clever but really painful to listen to - so it puzzles me why her vocal performance in "Gracie!" was thought good enough to demonstrate how Gracie Fields became as famous as she did.

Well actually my Mum's watching it and I got lonely in my room so I'm mostly on my laptop and not paying much attention lol...I don't think she's out of tune. I'm not familiar with the original Gracie so I can't compare but the singing's not bad. I like the character of Monty, he's really sweet. I was going mad trying to figure out who the actor was, and it took me ages of googling Gracie Fields to find this on IMDb because Mum didn't tell me what it was called.

Just watched in Australia, enjoyed the film, interesting stuff that I wasn't aware of and performances good. But I reluctantly agree about Jane's singing, reedy, thin and out of tune. And I loved her singing in Little Voice though I'm no judge. Probably picky but wasn't Gracie a bigger woman? Jane is painfully thin.
