Why is this rated so low?

I don't understand how this is at 6.9 while The Hangover is at 7.8. Sure they're both hilarious movies but for me this was almost a perfect comedy movie. I think it's bizarre that it's rated so low. What didn't people like about it?

reply

I don't know about perfect, but i wondered the same thing. Collin Ferrell is hillarious.

reply

I loved it but nasty bosses probably hated it.

reply

I personally find the Hangover funnier but this is a close 2nd.

No way, Horrible Bosses is so much better than The Hangover - and I really liked The Hangover.

I have seen a lot of funny Hollywood movies besides other languages funny movies but i truly beleive that its the best Hollywood comedy movie at least far better than Hangover although i find Hangover quite funny too and have seen Hangover twice or may be thrice.

Easy answer: It SUCKED! Utter Hollywood garbage. Who the hell would pay $10 or whatever it is now to see this kind of tripe? Kevin Spacey is a really good actor who has done a lot of wonderful, real-quality movies, but I'm surprised he would lower himself to star in this farce. The other actors are basically B-actors (even though I do like Charlie Day) so you can't blame them. They seem to take any kind of script as long as a paycheck comes along with it. I just could not imagine the greats (Gene Hackman, Al Pacino, Meryl Streep, etc.) ever starring in such nonsense. Of course, they're real actors who take their craft seriously.

You really couldn't imagine Al Pacino in a movie like this?
I'd like to direct your attention to a horrendous movie called Jack & Jill.

TRUTH!!!!

I thought it would rate lower. This was so bad I couldn't sit through it! My husband persisted but kept fast forwarding it to see if it would get any better.

a very funny film but the resolutions were disappointing - Colin Farrell death perfect; Kevin Spacey very good: Jennifer Aniston terrible - He could have taped her and filmed her at any time - so I think it is an 8

I noticed it's taboo for me to discuss this in my day to day life. Kevin Spacey's body language and talk in general is exactly the same as the corporate higher ups. Almost like they went to the same training school and are programmed to say that stuff. so cant discuss it at work. Girl I was with when it released hated Jennifer Aniston. no discussions! Girl I was with later took offense to the whole woman rapes man thing. not funny at all for her. Kinda shows you the demographic that wants to stay away from this movie.

If this was made in the late 80s or the early 90s that's a generation which would have been more appreciative of it in public. People get offended these days too easily :)

6.9 is a 7, duh. Not a low score. I think this movie deserves a 7 or 7.5; The Hangover was much worse and its high rating makes no sense.

Boycott movies that involve real animal violence! (and their directors too)

6.9 is pretty high for a screwball comedy. I enjoyed it, but a 6-7 rating sounds about right.

this answer made me think - do genres limit how high a movie is rated - eg Some LIke it Hot is generally regarded by movie critics as the best comedy ever made - can it be a 10 or is that too high for a "screwball comedy"? What comedies (exception of Annie Hall which might not even be a comedy) have won an academy award for best film?

If this is perfect comedy, then I don't know what isn't.
